I've seen most owners using a lot of rockscape, when I get time off from school my first plan is to build a new stand to support the greater weight better and place the aquarium in a well lit area.

Currently it's in the middle of my house.

I just run an HOB whisper filter with the bio inserts so bacteria can grow on it. I just have a sock on the intake to pick up debris only when i feed/change water. That's it for equipment. Keep in mind, the oldest pacu kept on record, 43 YO was kept in a 67 gallon @ 9kg's. Yes, room is important but people focus on it too much, there's alot more to keeping fish healthy, happy and their longevity than tank space.

ppl tend to forget about the water quality, feeding material and frequency etc etc. but damn. thats the longest i ever heard someone having a fish for

next major task is building a tank cover with a light built-in. any suggestions as to where i can buy a 3ft AQUARIUM light to screw up under the cover would be greatly appreciated. new or used but i wanna see pics of it working etc before I make any arrangements to meet.

UPDATE : went and got my filter today by shiva. putting in the gravel tonight then gonna let the tank cycle with a snail and maybe a koi or something in it. he had a clown knife fish abt 9" long for $500. 1) I wouldn't spend $500 on a fish like that and 2) I rather buy it from young. might pass by chais if i get lucky. anyone got chais number & opening / closing times?

Apart from that, put the tank out of sunlight completely.

Yeah 72 hr blackout, but still not gonna solve your problems if you have too much nutrients, light.

Yea I kinda know all this, the strange thing is the tank is well established for almost 16 months. The algae bloomed over night. I think I started turning on the light later in the afternoon though.

Your best option is the UV sterilizer....I use to do a little water change too.
If you looking for cheap and you from south....there is a guy that owns a Chinese restaurant opposite T&Tec in San Fernando. He sells aquariums, pumps, UV sterilizers and some decorations. He doesnt keep them dere in his restaurant he has them in another building near bamboo junction.
Rem its Chinese ting, I bought a pump and my aquarium (which is now saltwater) from him and it still working and good quality so you could check him.

Anyone using aqua clear filters?

I think it's time I get a new filter and I wanna add a internal canister for more flow on the opposite side if the tank.

Have you ever tried a submersible power head filter? They are really good at circulation, if that's what you want.

Same thing happened to me recently but my uv sterilizer didn't help with the Cyanobacteria at all. I have a little sunshine that hits the part of tank for an hour in the afternoon that may be the cause. I'm going to try the black out from today.

Pet shop boys has those power heads with the filter canisters, they are pretty cheap. You have the option of adding on more canisters if you have the depth for it.

I was getting the aquaclear 70gall hangon for $300 iirc and the internal canister filter for $150 from a pet shop nearby me. Ill make a spin when I get time and check pet shop boys prices.

go to the end of Munroe Road (by KFC) take a left. take first right opposite scotiabank. take right (first right I believe) at "X" junction look for tyre shop on left hand side. Tyre shop on Charrans compound.
