shipping from china (alibaba)

Postby optimus11 » January 12th, 2013, 1:56 pm

just weighing my options about shipping stuff from china. im thinking about buying some stuff from alibaba.com and have it shipped to trinidad. is there any cheaper alternative to having my goods shipped from china to miami and then to trini via skybox or ocean freight?

i got a shipping quote of approx US $400 to ship 65kg of goods from china to miami.

yes i did a search here but i did not get much helpful info.

THIS

unless you have money togive away (which could be given away to locals at least) stay FAR from alibaba.com

Think: "Ali Baba and the 40 thieves".... there is a reason behind that term...

Seriously? Don't take these idiots advice to stay away from alibaba. Alibaba is a directory of many companies. Alibaba ranks them based on if they are trusted.good reviews. Gold status silver status etc. Ive been using alibaba for over 5 years to find suppliers

^^^^ "Idiots" was a bit stong there (jus sayin)..granted u may have had a good experience so far with the company, the fraud perpetrated on Alibaba is well documented all over he internet. Its also a haven for imitation and low quality goods. OP go ahead if u want but its a chance.

Once you find a reputable company and you do your research and reading, you wouldn't have any problems.

ABA is correct, i have bought from alibaba already in the past and shipped electronics to trinidad. Just do your research OP. Some ppl have good experiences, some have bad but many ppl rush into things blindly without knowing what they are doing and with not enough research.

Why are you calling Alibaba a company. It's a listing of thousands of companies

ABA is right about Alibaba being a directory of Suppliers..... The decision is entirely up to you who you desire to do business with in a sense. I've even used Alibaba before in Market Research to find about local companies here in Trinidad ....

alibaba.com has another site aliexpress.com. They know that people may have problems with suppliers, so that's why they set up this site. What they do is hold the payment until you confirm delivery and satisfied with the item. After delivery confirmation, then they release the funds to the supplier.

My first order on that site, the delivery never made it and the supplier was not responding to my requests, and aliexpress refunded me once I raised the dispute. My other orders went through good with no problems.

It's is much cheaper to ship to Miami than to ship directly to Trinidad. Many suppliers offer free shipping to USA, but enormous shipping cost to Trinidad. My past eBay experience also tells me do not ship from China directly to Trinidad since it can take 3+ months to get here via post and higher risk of getting lost or damaged.

aliexpress.com has some really sweet deals. You can buy bulk or individual items, depending on the supplier. With their buyer protection, it's worth it. Look at suppliers feedback ratings before purchasing from them. My mistake on my first order was that supplier had no feedback. Of course beware of Chinese items that may be of inferior quality. I guess you cannot know for sure until after you receive it. But these days everything made in China anyway.

will definately check out aliexpress.com
thanks for all the input guys
i know ordering stuff from china is a bit risky but i believe with a little research and investigating i'm sure i can find legit suppliers. i also intend to bring samples of stuff before i make any big investments so i would know exactly the quality of goods supplied.

U could still get royally screwed even if u get a bess sample n expecting the same thing in bulk eh. Bait and switch business. I've lost thousands to Chinese scams. Safest advice is try aliexpress and then after one or two orders, talk to the supplier directly for orders

I bought from alibaba - TTPOST holds your stuff really long and send you a letter in the mail to go to the closest office to oick your stuff up - you still have to pay ttpost a fee though
