good choice. no sense going for something under those conditions/feelings and risking the car in the process.

They just said that 50% of the WRC cars are off.

Including Powell, but his name still on the overall standings at 35th, Trivino at 36th

FROM WRC.COM

Trinidad and Tobago's John Powell is making his FIA World Rally Championship debut on RallyRACC-Rally de Espana this week. After a tough start to the mixed-surface event, Powell admitted it's not been easy in his M-Sport Ford Fiesta RS WRC.
“Wow! I don’t know what to say,” said Powell at the PortAventura service park earlier today. “It looks easy on TV but it’s definitely not. It was very challenging. The first stage was horrific. I couldn’t find the wipers, I couldn’t find the heated windscreen and we went off slightly so I have to apologise to M-Sport for that.

“The second stage we got into it a little bit better but we just saw a lot of cars scattered all over the stage but the third stage was the most difficult stage of my life. I will not be embarrassed to tell you I had to stop for about 30 seconds. It felt like an eternity. I was just out of breath on the Tarmac stages. I just could not go any further.

“On the gravel I was okay but on the Tarmac I had to stop. It’s so demanding on you, physically and mentally. Also we went into a cloud of fog and we couldn’t see anything. I was disorientated and stopped for a few seconds, which seemed the safest thing to do to get my bearings before going again.

“I had to shake Sebastien Loeb’s hand a while ago. I told him this thing looks so easy on TV but to actually do it is really, really difficult. He said it was difficult for him as well but I don’t believe him somehow.

“I have absolutely no regrets about doing this. I just didn’t expect it to be what it is. It’s really demanding on you, it’s a different level and really is Cool Runnings comes to the WRC.”

Powell has not been able to contest this afternoon’s stages due to illness. He plans to rest before restarting under Rally 2 rules on Saturday morning.

Powell will continue tomorrow under Rally 2 rules

Unless stated differently in the event Supplementary Regulations, a crew that has retired during a day of the rally can restart the next day after being given a 5-minute penalty for each stage it has not finished or missed (minimum penalty, 10 minutes). The crew is allowed three hours service to prepare for this restart.

[BLOG]: Powell gets a dose of WRC fever

Article by Rodney Granado and Narend Sooknarine
SPAIN. John Powell, Trinidad and Tobago’s top rally driver had his first full-fledged experience on the Gandesa, Pesells 1 and Terra Alta 1 WRC stages in Cataluna, Spain on Friday morning. Local media teams from Trinidad & Tobago were positioned at the start of the first stage and observed Powell and Jamaican co-driver Mike Fennell Jr. in fine form compared to the previous day’s practice and qualifying runs driving the M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC.

Continuous rains gave the drivers an extra challenge in the early Gandesa gravel stage and carried on towards mid-afternoon.  A common problem with most drivers was combating the frosted glass from the combined colder outside temperature and warmer car interior.  Temperatures varied between 6-11 degrees Celsius earlier in the day with heavy fog along the Gandesa stage but most of the drivers including Powell managed a safe finish.  Fast forward to stage three and Powell experienced some dizzy spells during a pass due to extreme exhaustion related to the excitement WRC.  According to FORD M-SPORT`s press release today, Powell said
Wow. It looks easy on TV, but it is definitely not! It was very challenging. It took a while to acclimatise to the new car on the first stage [SS1]. Then on the second one [SS2] I felt as though we were getting into it a little bit better until we saw so many cars scattered all over the road. The third stage [SS3], I think was the most difficult stage of my life and I will not be embarrassed to tell you that I had to stop – I had to stop for maybe 30 seconds, just to catch my breath.  It is so challenging mentally and physically. I actually had to go and shake Sébastien’s [Loeb] hand. He told me it was difficult for him too, but somehow I don’t quite believe him.”

The newest stage for 2012 was based on the gorgeous Salou beachfront where drivers tested their dexterity skills through a tightly woven network of twists and turns before a massive crowd. Powell saw a team doctor and was treated but he hopes for another start tomorrow morning at the La Mussara 1, Riba Roja Ebre 1 and El Priorat 1 from 8:00 a.m.

People kindly ignore Logic, in his mind no Trini, actually no one except a Bajan can do anything good when it comes to motorsport. He does not represent the views of anyone but himself and please don't judge the otherwise supportive Barbados motorsport population. I am convinced that even if John won the event, he'd find something to shout about. So let the guy have fun with his keyboard 1000 miles away. He knows nothing of the challenges the man faces, and continues to state the sarcastic remarks in an attempt to feel relevant.

At the end of the day these are some of the most challenging conditions for the entire 2012 season....said by Jari Mati Latvala...and most of the big names have either crashed or have been experiencing problems. Logic has no idea of what Powell is up against. And regardless does it mean that Powell is less of a driver for attempting something on this scale. Powell had to be tended to by Team Medics for an Ear Nose Throat infection that got the better of him in the rain, fog, and 5degrees weather. Sorry that Powell isn't a Bajan with super human powers.

Logic, we have a great forum here, so kindly have a look at what a very sick Powell had to try to drive through today....

Ok so here it goes.
If John won the event (how ever far fetched that is ) i would be happy for him.
You talk about me being 1000km away and typing on my keyboard , dude when i am at these events WORKING and you are WATCHING it is different , so i take it this is your first euro rally you have been far less a wrc event? When i have been at these events for many years of my life working with different teams and people . So YOU are the person who does not know what I am doing or going through so slow your roll about me being 1000 miles away and on my keyboard talking sheit and not knowing what the man going through . Joke is i am here posting pics on this forum and others of john and videos but yet i am being sarcastic and thinking only a bajan can do these things.......some people are just ungrateful .My comments are not sarcastic they are the cold truth , screw sugar coating things i speak it the way it is so take of your rose tinted glasses. Enjoy your couple days at your wrc event lol

I remember when the late Great Richard Burns had to retire from a rally because he couldnt handle the conditions. The team had to install air conditioning in his car later on so he could continue the championship.
I think John has balls of steel to be attempting this and my utmost respect.

So can we back the team as one Caribbean.
