commentators said they are quite happy to see a first timer at wrc last so long, granted he is not in the top 20, but they admire his determination to finish each stage, his consistency and his style.
they mentioned also that he is doing quite well for the conditions given and hope he can return for a full season next time....... "someone to watch" as another put it

John Powell: “Wow. It looks easy on TV, but it is definitely not! It was very challenging. It took a while to acclimatise to the new car on the first stage. Then on the second one I felt as though we were getting into it a little bit better until we saw so many cars scattered all over the road. The third stage, I think, was the most difficult stage of my life and I will not be embarrassed to tell you that I had to stop – I had to stop for maybe 30 seconds, just to catch my breath.

“It is so challenging mentally and physically. I actually had to go and shake Sébastien’s [Loeb] hand. He told me it was difficult for him too, but somehow I don’t quite believe him!

“Having said that, I have no regrets, it is just so different to what I had expected. Back home we are island boys, and this is just a different level. The car is perfect and it can give you so much power, I think we just need to commit more to the notes, try to tackle the challenge head on and just have some fun out there.”

Unfortunately, he was dropped into the worse conditions probable. I am hearing the weather is terrible, even Seb is having difficulty. Solberg went off.

He should have been eased into this type of compettition. Imagine Ostberg beating Loeb by 30 secs.

Dont judge John too harshly.

he had a ss3 time of 38:22.4
given how (even more) far off the pace he was guessing the 30 seconds was there, and need for rest came on ss4. *guess* maybe robbie will confirm soon enough.

but it is an intense session, longer stages etc
as i said i was just hoping for a finish, but will see what other updates we get
