If they ever legalise it, its quite simple, its like any other addiction, Make it legal to do it in your house, or enclosed Appointed and approved Establishments.
IF you are caught behind the wheel HIGH or out and around whilst on a HIGH, then YOu are JAILED for 1 week- 1 month initially depending on the suitation , and you will also receive a HEFTY FINE.

Man... the misguided youth eh.

alcohol and driving is the WORST... judgement is impaired significantly, bravery is up 10 fold, so drunk drivers tend to drive very fast and very dangerously... not to mention the severely impaired hand/eye coordination.

It's funny how many sheep have been affected by the spin many people put on the real effects of weed.... it's a shame so many comments are made in haste and ignorance... that type of discussion will keep people in the dark forever. Free your mind... or live life bleating.

The world is moving toward legalization. As usual we gonna be the backwards 3rd world country to only legalize it after the US does.

Why?

Personally if it becomes legal it will affect the gangs that are funded by drug trade.

If God couldnt stop Adam from eating off the tree.. i dont know why we think that legislation and punishment is the way to deal with a naturally occuring substance. education and choice is the only thing that could change our view. and many of us have a one sided view but think we know everything.

as far as im concerned, all we doing is destroying families, and sending non-violent crime offenders to mix in with murderers and all other forms of decrepid mentalities in the prison system. destroying their future forever. if marijuana wasnt destroying their lives and their future, the government system surely is.

send a regular man in mixed prison for an illegal bush in his possession, and create a monster.

maybe that is the objective of government. they create monsters so that ppl will feel insecure when the backlash come from those who feel unfairly penalized by the system. because i dont see how psychologists would not have advised them that that is what would happen when u mix non-violent crime offenders with violent crime offenders.

at the very least, the system should have a separation, just like they separate violent crime from white collar crime etc. but to intentionally throw non violent youths into a cage with primitive animals, is only to force them to adapt to such an environment. and that means, to become an animal.. when they come out.. is raw animal.

our society creates, manufactures, and keeps a steady flow in the production line of criminals. all to keep the masses in check.

if you do a side by side comparison of things such as cigarettes, alcohol, cocaine and reefer, its clear that marijuana has the few damaging effects on the body (feel free to argue with that). And if there is concern about driving or operating machinery when high, why not apply similar preventative laws used to curb driving under the influence of alcohol? Last I checked/tried, alcohol makes people sick, abusive and it impairs most skills. Compare that to the effects of the active chemical in MJ, THC, usually makes you feel to relax, innuh that mellow feeling where everything is just nice and life's sweet?......and ofc it makes you hungry......There's much more to add to this, but time.....feel free to argue with anything here......

I agree with the driving when high part - yes I have tried this - in an extremely remote location though - and when you're high, unlike under the influence of alcohol, you accept the fact that you're high and you know that your motor skill, and other skills would be impaired. However, you actions behind the while are based on this knowledge, hence your speed is slower, you take longer to make turns as your carefully analyze and premeditate upon each move before you make it. In serious cases, I've noticed it is possible to loose a buzz more rapidly faced with a serious situation...........any comments on that?

This is true, at most times stoners I lime with actually rather come out and say "dawg I too high to drive" than when the same persons are under an alcohol head.

Remember too most people who dons the argument actually never was high so they just regurgitating misinformation from the 80's

^^+1 honestly its a step in the right direction.. (if they only take the step is another thing)

As with driving while high, though I do not endorse it, I know many stoners who cannot smoke at home and have to drive around smoking. They are always more cautious and some even tend to be better drivers (as explained before compensating for the high)

Anyone think that a saliva test for recent marijuana use would help to reduce and penalise people driving under the influence of marijuana (if decriminalized)?

Standard test now is a urine test, which will give a positive if they used up to a whole month before. Apparently saliva tests just work 4-6 hours so will better indicate if someone is under the influence.

I personally find the urine test is BS, if someone went home on Friday and smoked a little and got tested on Monday it would most probably show up when they would clearly not be under the influence any more.

True, if what you say about the saliva test is true, then that's the best avenue for officials to go down. Again, I'm agreeing with Kupral cause I'm pretty damn sure more than half these people saying +/- things about MJ have never even touched the stuff, but instead, they're regurgitating information they've read in articles - usually criticizing marijuana, the smoking of it and its users. Like it was said just above, stoners know when they're high and aren't afraid to admit it, that's just how the high is; unlike alcohol, where you know you are wasted, yet you feel as if you are capable enough, or perhaps invincible enough, to get behind the wheel or perform any other task that requires focus and in doing so endangering your life and putting others at risk in the process.

the thing is, people are going to use it whether its illegal or not

why should people have to go to drug dens where there are guns/cocaine/gangs to buy ganja when they could get it over the counter and pay appropriate taxes if there are any

why should a 15-17 year old who just try a lil ganja or get hold with ganja in his pocket be sent to YTC/jail where he will learn to hate society and come out a much more hardened criminal

then theres the issue of police planting weed on alleged criminals

You do realise a 15-17 year old would not be able to get it legally even if it was legal right?
