That lady probably used the wrong term, embargo is a foreign policy term, as oppose to a banking policy of a merchant.

hmm, i ordered some stuff from the UK a couple times, never had a prob, no sky box used, came straight to my address in trinidad. used the visa debit (travel money). Sounds like company policy rather than country.

Same here..I order car stuff from different UK suppliers all the time and never had an issue with using my credit card online, except with Futures......but still....there must be some reason they have us flagged in their system..........I was caught off guard so much that I didn't even ask her to give me more details on it......I was just like 'uh............ok...........'

typical all over: even in the states they tend not towant to accept your credit card... even if you use paypal.

That is just their way of saying "You're not from our country and as far as we're concerned you stole someone's card to make this order"

I came across this issue with a US company last week though

on tuesday I was making arrangements with them to pay with credit card over the phone, the next day they email me and say that they now enforce a policy about not taking credit cards from anywhere out of the US or UK so I have to use wire transfer

perhaps it's not that Trinidad specifically is blocked but that everywhere except the UK is blocked

nah, she said 'Trinidad is an embargoed country and that's why our website transaction won't go through for you'
I can still use my credit card to buy magazines from them, but only via phone or fax

When that happens, someone else gets my business. USA have too much competition for you to be bracing me.

I window shop on newegg.com and musiciansfriend.com then go buy the stuff on amazon.
Because 9 sellers are amazon partners and trying to give newegg competition.

i've ALWAYS found amazon to have the cheapest

recent example, was buying 14 ip cameras last week from a texas based company as well as 6 wireless bridges and 5 8 port PoE switches

I end up checking amazon for ALL the items they were selling, saved $100 US per camera, $300 US per bridge and $50 us per PoE switch, for the same items/models and with free 2 day shipping and no question or issue with my credit card to ship to any address i want

prolly because of TTs anti-money laundering deficiencies .... can be cause for blacklisting or embargoing. we're currently rated 'Light Grey' by the FATF an improvement over our previous 'Black' rating but not 'White' yet. Yes I know .... very racial rating system but that's what the FATF uses

But yeah, you're right. Some of our legislation is yet to meet with international standards.

Once i had to get some parts, put in the order, got an email about the payment not going through, just called credit card centre, gave them the details and it was verified, maybe just a policy with diffrent places.

Actually it is the other way around, the UK is cited for high instance of credit card fraud, and such some banks block credit card transaction online unless you call them before hand and verbally authorise the transaction. Republic Bank has this policy in place. Call your relevant card center and find out.
