Cleaning Rebar steel

Postby ibanez » June 15th, 2012, 3:37 am

need to clean some rebar steel that has been tied for a house foundation. looking for a easy method, wire brushing will be tedious, lots of steel to clean.

it has been sitting in the weather for the last 3 months, construction halted due to cement price.

can rebar steel be painted/coated and placed in concrete?

Regular rust remover liquid sold in hardwares would work for general surface rusting.
If there is "scaling", you would have to wire/power brush it off and then use the rust remover...

Or, you can just power wash it off with water and properly dry off with cloth.

Wonder or some such rust remover for mild surface rusting.

As mentioned above, if there is scaling then wire brush it.

OP, the best rust treatment product on the market is named 'RUST SEAL'.
This product is widely used in the petro-chemical industry and also exported.

All you need to do is spray it onto the exposed rebar, let it sit for specified time and then wash it off OR you can power wash it off (with plain water).

WD-40. Lots of it. Add some elbow grease.
