So that's what was squeaking in the engine!

Postby sensiman » June 14th, 2012, 6:14 pm

I have heard stories of animals in cars but usually there is an explanation of how they got there.

So I was installing a lil cone filter and opened up the filter box to find a strange surprise.

How did these buggers get in here when I drive this car almost every single day at least 35km one way to work? The mother had enough time to build a nest AND give birth?

I think they were dead by the time I opened it up. So peaceful.

Anyone have strange discoveries?

Rats are hardy resourceful creatures and one of the best evolved and adaptable mammals on the planet. They can fit through spaces as small as 1/2 inch. Smaller rats can fit through hole the size of a 25 cent piece. Once the rat's skull can fit through the space, the rat can squeeze and compress the rest of its body to get through anything.

Rats also eat through almost everything on this earth, from wire mesh, to copper wires, to wood to bricks! When the bamboo plant bears fruit in the Far East regions like Burma and the Bay of Bengal, it usually leads to a massive increase in rat populations leading to an increase of disease and famine in human populations nearby. The rats ravage entire villages of every single morsel of grain and food.

Quite an interesting experience. However I would suggest that you may have to examine wiring
to ensure parent rodent didn't create some havoc elsewhere in the vehicle.
Truly respect the destructive powers of those buggers (big or small).

 gracias cinco

Team EVO, yes it is LHD. That car is my winter beater/piece o crap car.
Most cars in the area I live in that are pre 2005, have similar looking engine bays due to salt accumulation and corrosion over the years.
I personally would like my engine bay looking a little more pristine but time does not permit. The undercarriage is mostly rust also. The rest of the car is pretty clean though.
