Now i want to live forever i want to drive slow and use seatbelt and look twice before crossing the road. Dear god i want to live. This phone is sooooo powerful browses tube 8 smoother than my 3 ghz dual core pc. So amazing

I fraid to root and flash my phone yes. Next thing I brick it.

I wonder if the official ICS update for the Galaxy S2 will improve on battery life?

Not yet.

I'm on CM now, stock ICS is really impressive.

Ive found that battery life is the same. Im actually getting a bit frustrated with it, its too laggy for my liking...
Considering rooting if it will help with the bugs.

I haven't tried it but it looks like a really good alternative to NAVFone Trinidad & Tobago which is the one I use.

^^well it looks like it is similar price to the Navfone - ~US$30. After the 1mth trial on Navitel, it's $30 usd, and the map from limesim is free. The question is which is better...The comments on the google store doesn't spark a whole lot of confidence in the Navfone though...?

actually this used to happen to me pre-update to ICS... since i updated hasnt happened when inputting numbers, it recognizes it with or without the 868 now.

The NAVFone works good, never had a problem finding places with it. It's not the best looking one out there and there are no map updates that I know off. I believe the POI's on both versions are going to be more or less the same. The Navitel version also has a better looking interface as well. I'll probably purchase Navitel by month end and give the LimeSim map a tryout, they seem to have done a good job.

Lucian-2nr helped me with mine.

You need to back up yr phone, download odin software and get the relevant download link compatible with yr phone region to update to begin with.

im sure others who know more than me will chime in.

To upgrade to ICS, check XDA in the S2 section, in the development forum, look for the official firmware thread by Intratech. There is a well written guide on how to upgrade using Odin.

You could also use Kies, but I have never used it and probably never will.

I did it via Kies, was straight forward, download and install kies. Plug in your phone and see if an update is available. If it is then its basically pressing next and waiting while you phone backs up, and downloads the updates etc. I think mine took 30mins - 45 mins to do.
I personally think this is the easiest way to update and you should try this first, if this doesn't work then check out the other methods.
This is just my opinion.

Since ICS on the GS2 is heavily skinned, you really are not going to notice much difference.
The lock screens are different, you can monitor data usage and task manager is changed.

Other than that no real difference, no battery life improvement for me and in some cases I find to be a bit laggier than GB.

I honestly don't really see the great need for the ICS update if you gonna use touch wizz, if you go full stock ICS then that's a different story.

The reason I don't like Kies is because it's slow and has been responsible for a few soft bricks.

I just download the ROM I want to use, use odin and i'm done in 10 minutes

The next thing with kies is that you basically have to run stock phone, PDA and CSC, I don't, I always mix and match to find a good combination, example the latest rom that was released is LP2 for Russia, many have said it's "miles better" than LPE and LPQ, if I were still using Samsung stock ROMs, that's the one I would have been using, with the UK CSC and the LP6 radio (better signal strength for me!)

Yup I completely agree with you, I use Kies as a last resort as well but for someone who now got their phone and is not too comfortable with flashing roms etc, I think Kies is the most new user friendly way. Plus more than likely if bolo got his phone a week or two ago it will be stock.

The main thing is bolo has lots of choices to choose from to upgrade his phone.

had a fright last night

had a few programs that needed a force stop and then lost play store link even though short cut was there
did a factory reset which IMO for me was frightful but all was ok
Even gained a whole heap of space on phone even though cache and what could have been moved was dealt with.
