Why do people, especially youth, smoke?

Help me understand something that I could never for the life of me understand. Why do trinis especially young school children feel that they must smoke? I view it as a wasteful and destructive habit, why don't they?

Drinking eh too backward either, who drink more is boss. Half the time they cant stomach it, vomit 3/4 of it out after. Seems anything that kills you faster is cool.

I'm not advocating smoking but people have so much worst lifestyle disorders but concentrate on smoking.
I smoke a pack of dunhill lights a day, still able to make a savannah followed by a lady Chancellor, everyone needs a vice, smoking is mines, it distracts from other more dangerous temptations like.................

All I have to say I this:

My father used to smoke from 18 years till he was 50. All through life he said

"Well something hadda kill you..."

13 years after he stopped he found out he had cancer in the throat, mouth and tongue. Doctors sliced him open, cut off his tongue, part of his jaw and his throat and left him permanently disfigured; he couldn't talk or eat properly... nothing. After an operation, 2 months of treatment in venezuela that cost him over $750000.00 they said he was cleard of all Cancer...

and 6 months later they came back to say it returned worse than ever. That day my old man say me down with tears in his eyes and blood from all the sores in his mouth... and said


"I know what i said all those years ago, but if I knew... if only I knew this is was what could happen to me I NEVER would have picked up a cigarette...


He died 3 months later. 2 years after that, His sister who smoked as well had Cancer before him... and suffered and died after numerous operations... she said the same long before her brain stopped working. Now my uncle as well has been diagnosed with cancer in the mouth and throat. and once again he was one that used to say other things would kill him first...

Others may, but not as painful or suffering as Cancer. So I see threads like this I can't help but post... What you all do is your choice... smoking included. You can make all the statements that can absolve any questions as to the reason to your smoking and what can kill you.

But "if" you should end up 15-30 years down the line and it actually DOES get you, try not to tell your friends, family or children

^ The previous generations did not have the information that we have nor the highlighting of the risks of smoking, there is a lot of information now anyone that smokes now and says "if only i knew" is an idiot and deserves what they get.
That said I AM a smoker, it's a choice i made conscientious of the risk to my health over the long run.
