McDonald's coming back to T&T

Story Created: Aug 19, 2011 at 12:54 AM ECT
Story Updated: Aug 19, 2011 at 12:54 AM ECT

McDonald's is coming back to Trinidad and Tobago.

Arcos Dorados, the largest operator of McDonald's restaurants in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the world's largest McDonald's franchisee, will open its first McDonald's restaurant in Trinidad, at The Falls at West Mall shortly.

Arcos Dorados operates 1,755 restaurants, 1,300 dessert centres and 267 McCafé locations in 19 countries and territories in Latin America, serving an average of four million customers daily, the company said in a statement yesterday.

More than 20 nationals have already been hired as managers, and have been undergoing training in Curacao and Puerto Rico over the past few months, in preparation for the new McDonald's opening.

In addition, Arcos Dorados is currently in the process of recruiting crew members for the McDonald's restaurant at The Falls at West Mall.

Candidates will have the opportunity to present their resume on August 22 and 23, from 8.30 a.m to 4 p.m at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Port of Spain.

"We are very happy to arrive in Trinidad and Tobago, and very proud to be generating new employment opportunities through the direct jobs at our new restaurant", said Milagros Bermúdez, Arcos Dorados market manager for Trinidad & Tobago. "We look forward to start serving the Trinbagonians soon, and offering the McDonald's complete family experience at our modern and environmentally-conscious restaurant."

Under a different franchisee, McDonald's operated two outlets in Port of Spain and San Fernando from 1997 until 2003.

The restaurants closed as sales declined in the country.

Opening across the country, they want to come back with many more outlets than before. I believe South and East already on the cards as well.

don't think they would move this way.

they would look to locate themselves close to Burger King and Wendy's first, then maybe expand if things are doing well.
