I agree.
No disrespect to the deceased, but people have this notion that "Ah in the road walking slow, stop your car!"..The car usually wins.

Drivers MUST drive more carefully. That is the first point of order!!! If he was not "SPEEDING", he would have had more reaction time to take evasive action.

Or maybe he would not have needed to take evasive action at all even if he were driving MUCH MORE SLOWLY.

pioneer wrote:Damn, that crossing needs a walkover of some sort. The light is dangerous (Oh, Really, now!!!) because if heading east, right before the light there is a "hill"...some vehicles come down speeding and are unable to stop being suprised by a red light. (There you go!!!!)

police could help make a significant contribution to the treasury if they start sharing tickets by that light on a 24 hour basis......more P cars than maxis esp after dark....

Man killed on bus route: fire officer charged with drunk driving

By Rickie Ramdass rickie.ramdass@trinidadexpress.com

Story Updated: Jul 26, 2011 at 12:56 AM ECT

A 28-YEAR-OLD St Augustine man was killed on Sunday evening after he was struck by a vehicle driven by an off-duty fire officer along the Priority Bus Route (PBR).
The officer, 37-year-old Tyrone Sheppard, who was attached to the Wrightson Road Fire Station, has since been charged with drunk driving and the illegal use of the PBR.
He appeared before Tunapuna Magistrate Andrew Stroude yesterday and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Around 4.30 p.m., on Sunday, Sheldon George, 28, of Old Tim Road, was crossing the PBR close to the University of the West Indies (UWI) traffic light when he was struck by a white wagon driven by the officer. He died on the spot.
Investigators who later arrived on the scene, took the officer, who lives in Barataria into custody after they realised that he was not a holder of a pass to use the PBR and that the scent of alcohol was on his breath, police said.
He failed a breathalyser test which was later conducted, police said.
Officers said they were continuing investigations into the incident and that it was likely that Sheppard could also be charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
