capacitor replace job completed !!!

Postby skylinechild » June 22nd, 2011, 7:34 pm

electronic tuner men....i need to know where i can get some capacitors for a repair project i'm doing...

I need a 470 microfarad 6.3 volt and a 220 microfarad 25 volt. general purpose caps...rubycon would be the preferred brand if possible

i checked steves in san juan but they only got stuff in the higher voltage rage..like 25-50 volt but capacitance is the same- i prefer not to use this cause of the equipment kinda sensitive.

any tuner have or knows where i can get them let me kno..i will call gopauls in sando on friday to see if they got anything. :!: :!:

UPDATE: replaced capacitor in router....works perfectly....no random lock ups / reboots constant steady connection..pulled down like 4 Gb of data using router - no issues....

tuners who experiencing similar issues with their router - open it up and check the caps....might need replacing...! 8-)

Steve's dont have ........:S
Alextronics in Arima or Sham's in ElDorado........

maybe you can redo the circuit to gain equivalent values.........

no trust rubycon... they made bad capacitors a couple years back that affected a lot of dell mobos. but, there is a place in POS that should sell them.... Singhs electronics

thanks for the info...will call directory assist to get ph # ...and sadly no...cant redo the circuit....

i prefer rubycon over what i got now...some taiwanese brand capxon....it swelled and vented @ the top....causing the equipment to constantly power cycle....

will call directory assistance to get a number for singhs....

anyone else...?

Using a capacitor with a higher voltage rating doesn't affect performance, but the caps themselves tend to be physically larger.

You can also check R&N Electronics on Cipero Street in San Fernando.

thanks for the info hydroep.....but the original caps is like 6.3.....and the ones i got is like 25V...!!!
tha is not a small difference in volts....

will call R&N to find out on friday...!

co-sign on R&N, Gopaul's usually have a wide variety too.

I replaced some caps on my mobo, same capacitance but a slightly higher voltage,,, running normal

What's ur application?

is for my router......it keeps on power cycling and when it comes on it has a soft humming sound plus when in use it randomly cycles - very annoying... :x

may i ask how you replaced the caps on the mobo....you got precision tools....??

I might be able to find some for you

btw the voltage rating on a cap is simply an upper limit, so if you can get a higher voltage which fits then it will work same
also there are usually temperature ratings, common is 85degrees, the next better is 105

lol no, a cheap soldering iron with a fine point and some thin soldering wire

luckily the area I was working had alot of room for error

What is the project you're doing? Those are very generic capacitor sizes, so unless you're creating filters or some frequency dependent application, I'm sure you can use any alternatives that you can find.

just replacing the caps in my router....damn thing vented @ the top.....and router keeps power cycling...so if i replace it....it will work again...saves me from buyin a new router for now.... :!:

These sound like capacitors for the power supply/conditioning unit of the router. Pretty much any similar sized capacity will work. Just make sure the voltage at above and not below the previous capacitors and that they're connected with the same polarity.

As stated before.... you will have no problem using a higher voltage rating as it mearly states up to what operating voltage the capacitor can handle, the only down side being the larger physical size.
Once capacitance is the same u good to go.

yeah, those values are pretty common, but the voltages aren't and there's no issue using higher voltage caps other than physical size so if u have then in 25V, I see no prob using 'em.
I repaired an ECU for a customer that used 10V caps (220μF and 15μF) but I only got 'em in 25V and the car works like new to this day.

ok guys repair job completed.....capacitors worked perfectly....!!!

replaced the 470 micro farad cap in my wireless router.....old one vented....new one installed in less than 15 mins....

so far no random reboots and ive been pulling down data from the internet via the wireless connection....works perfect.

well..not exactly....i wasnt getting TIME to repair it...plus when it was repaired i didnt get time to reassemble it.....plus when i finally re assembled it, i tested it for a week before coming back on tuner and relaying information....!!! :|

  no...not really. i had the solution...when i opened it up the first time and saw the swelled capacitor i knew that was the problem, also google came in handy- read a post where some guy had the exact same issue - different router- he changed the caps and it worked !

just implementing the solution took time. I had to get advice from the electronic tuner men - thanks smokey and hook......and everyone else !!!. had to get time to go get the caps and fix it plus i wanted to test out the equipment after the repair before relaying results !!! :)
