***70 arrested in Laventille raid??? (CoP Gibbs Stories)***

Gibbs gives Biche residents ultimatum
Cops destroy $165m in ganja

COMMISSIONER of Police Dwayne Gibbs sent a message to members of the Biche community involved in the illegal planting of marijuana to desist from the activity or else, they will be caught and sent to jail.

"Many of you give a justification for your production as a means to eat a food...remember that your choice of production may result in you eating a food behind bars," Gibbs reportedly told the residents during a meeting held with them as security officers conducted exercises in that part of the country earlier this month.

Gibbs and Acting Chief of Defence Staff Col Kenrick Maharaj were yesterday among a team of security officials who surveyed a two-week-old counter-narcotics operation in Biche and Gran Riviere/Matura.

During the exercise, a total of 337,516 fully grown marijuana trees, with an estimated street value of $165,302,500, were destroyed.

Moruga also felt the brunt of police/regiment operation, with a significant quantity of marijuana being destroyed there as well.

A total of 55 fields and six camps were torched. During the raids, six men were arrested and have already appeared before various magistrates in the districts where they were caught.

Yesterday, a joint regiment/police team addressed reporters at the Biche High School, shortly after Gibbs and Maharaj returned from an aerial surveillance of the fields.

Capt Ashook Singh, of the regiment, said in Biche, a total of $46,382,500 worth of cannabis was burnt while in Moruga, another $51,800,000 worth of the illicit drug was destroyed. The largest haul was from the Gran Riviere/Matura area where $65,300,000 worth of marijuana was destroyed. He said their operations began on November 15.

Gibbs said, "We have, over the past three months, been actively implementing a number of programmes aimed at reducing the supply and demand of drugs in Trinidad and Tobago."

Gibbs also invited those with information about narco tics production to "partner with us in what we are called upon to do".

"The police cannot do it alone. If you are afraid to come to the station and call an officer, there are a number of programmes which will afford you the opportunity to share information in confidence and without fear," he said.

the day change happens in that direction will be a major turning point, which will have both positive and negative implications for this country.... thing is that 'turning point' could go either way... if someone is to challenge that head on, I figure theyre gonna need alot of plans and resources to deal with the repercussions... and im just talking about the 'downstream' financial effect...

When they attempt to deal with the murder issue:
- it's a distraction from the real source which is the drug trade; they not doing enough.

When they deal with the drug issue:
- it's a distraction from the real issue of murders.

It's like 33% of the country have tabanca and PMS at the same time, and can't make up their mind if to nibble a nuggle or explore the mud volcano

US$10,000 for info on 'snitch'

COMMISSIONER of Police Dwayne Gibbs yesterday described allegations that a Beetham gang has offered a $US10,000 reward for information regarding a recent police raid which yielded a deadly rifle used by the United States army, as a very frightening scenario.

On November 5, officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force, acting on information, went to an open yard at Hell Yard Beetham, where they dug up a deadly M4 Colt rifle; 400 rounds of 5.56 and 7.62 calibre ammunition, which are used in Galil, SLR and AK-47 rifles; three bulletproof vests, one of them belonging to an officer employed with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service; a camouflage kit, a telescope for the M4 Colt rifle and 500 grammes of Jamaican compressed marijuana. The rifle is specifically made for the United States Army and was the number one weapon used by the US in its wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Colombia, police said.

Officers expressed shock at the discovery of such a deadly weapon, saying it was the first of its kind they had ever seen in the country.

Police told the Sunday Express that before the discovery of the items, they had arrested a well-known gangster from Beetham Gardens, who was later released and placed under constant surveillance, which eventually led them to the deadly stash.

During a brief telephone interview yesterday, Commissioner Gibbs said if the allegations are true, he remains very concerned on such a stance taken by criminals in order to further their nefarious activities.

"If they are offering rewards like that, well it's something that I would want to investigate very quickly. Certainly rewards are offered for various reasons and it's for their (criminals) purpose to commit other illegal acts and certainly I would want to look into it very quickly.

"What disturbs me is the fact that, if they are offering that type of reward, they got it to publish that or put that out there, that should give us a starting point to look into it more," Gibbs said.

Last week, the Sunday Express received reliable information from a source at Beetham that the reward was offered in exchange for information leading to the person(s) who would have directed police to the illegal stash. Police sources have also confirmed that they too heard of the reward, which was very alarming in their fight against crime. Officers said such actions could have serious consequences since the leader of the gang is indicating that he will kill the person(s) who may have given the information to police.
