Little Update on Grenada Drags

Postby spongebobb » May 30th, 2010, 11:12 pm

Aron Skyline out with Hole in Block.
Tam Skyline Broken Diff and Axles.
Tam Subaru Broken Axles.
Hyper Fast B13 (Rampy) out Gearbox. However he ran some Consistent 12's yesterday.
D & D Navin Skyline Experiencing some Traction and Car Control issues .Working Hard on Getting a good pass.
Southside Crew Evo 3 running Clean, reliable and consistent in 13's.
Boost Factory Charmant had Scary moment yesterday in croossing track.Hats of to the driver for doing well to save the car.

All in all poor organization of the event, lights giving trouble causing delays, not many competitive runs getting in due to many cars breaking parts.

The swift experience some problems in transit but was able to get it together and some consistent 13's.Sparky cars was performing well. The pulsar could not get in a good run, driver trying to get the feel for the new dog box,the true potential of the car not seen as yet.Not quite sure which car is silver bullet.Boost Factory s14 running really well and their Charmant as long as it stays on the track. The black Charmant with the RB 20 running well in 11's with an occasional drop into 10"s.The Black 120y also running clean. The V8 guys, well the Big Green car was changing Transmission,Rug Rat Cortina started up and smoked up so he yet to make an appearance. The Capri was at his usual consistent.

Yes the timing system was giving trouble. The lanes seem to be mix up after the yellow MR2 from Grenada hit the Control tower with the lights.Well the silver Bullet was mid 10's but was getting some strong competition from a Green Integra from ST.Vincent with a B18C Turbo set up as well. Not sure of sparky exact time but the crew looked pleased with the results. The Black 120Y was in 11's not sure if they were able to touch 10's.

This even was poorely organized. In comparison to the St. Lucia drags, this one was plagued with lighting and timing issues. Very disappointed with this trip.

Logistics
The logistics on this trip was poor at best , those team members who traveled with the cars assembled and loaded generally between 1 and 4 pm Thursday and cars reached up on the track site in Grenville more than 24hrs after that first assembly at the POS port.

I got the impression at the initial meeting that the cars would be there port to track would be 12 hours at most.

Track Conditions
While at lot of work was done to the track and the movement of cars in Grenada was ok , the lighting at the track was very very poor an not enough to safely enable any nightly sessions on Saturday after some morning rains had the track damp to mid afternoon.

On Sunday am there was rain and around 5 pm some drizzles began, leading to a deluge at 6:30 pm and continuing to 7 - *pm effectively ending the "racing weekend".

The transition from the concrete surface to the paved area on the track was a crack and was enough to cause a break in traction for many cars.

Cars and Racing

There was a black evo 7.8.9 some where around there from Vincey that ran low 10's consistently , very impressive. also Barry B's old car now .......... was wild at times lifting the left front wheels more than a 1.5 to 2 feet on the start also ran low 10's

The fastest bike also ran low 10's .

There was a yellow 3 s MR 2 , whose driver had some monkey gland problems at time and was an unstable mid to low 11's eventually clearing away the Christmas tree, and starting system and nearly the starter as well :? This is were i believe the inaccuracies in the times began in earnest. Although before this point there ware already significant delays due to this malfunctioning.

For our team the 120 was running straight which was a real concern for us as many theories surrounding the planning and eventual build of that mid to rear suspension and the systems of the car . While we were hurrying to finish the car for the event , we hurried and some other areas of the car we not 100% , these areas caused us some grief and we expect to rectify them in the near future . We got 2 runs with Wraith , the car fouled and shut down at the line in the first pass and in the second was close maybe a fender length in 1st and 2nd (wraith can confirm this ) but the car lost power in 3 rd and that was that. , an 11.4 run on sat

The lancer was struggling for traction with the street and strips and little traction in 2nd and 3rd consigned it to best of 13.1, when we put on the slicks the gear box could not handle it. That time however gave us trophy in that bracket for 2nd place. :D

The winners were taken form the Saturday times since it was discovered that there were great positive and negative variations on the et's of Sunday.

yes this was quite a disappointing race event. but the lighting system was the same one from St. Lucia and the people running the system were the same guys. They had major problems with it since it got hit and never got it to work properly after and if lister could not fix it then nobody can.

This lighting system should actually be replaced, it has seen too much abuse over the years.

I do know many people have complained that cars stayed too long on the port but the time they stayed is normal, (my car has spend 4 days on Trinidads port while being processed) many persons did not have to stay with their cars, after immigration was done they were free to move about as they saw fit. If drivers were given the impression that it would have been a quick transitions through customs well am sorry but that will not happen and i also know for a fact that when they return to home they will have the same problem.

The track conditions could have been better but the dry season did a number on the track causing cracks and bumps which cannot be fixed, they did spray trackbite and drag tires over the entire 1/4 for the high hp cars but by the time the track started to get better traction the rain fall which ended the event.

Cornfused, I love that 120. We had some good runs and am sure when you get the problem fixed it will put down a very impressive time.

The evo from Vincy was a Evo 9 which did multiple 10.6 passes, beautiful car to see race.

I never even got to make a good pass with my car but i cannot fight the gremlins what plagued the weekend

Wraith , your car is as good as an v8 drag car i have seen over the years , with the exception of the Sheik machine , i remember you coming here and the progress you have made since.

Re the logistics , 4 days is extreme , but with the transport leaving and the time frame for the event , i just thought is was slow.
