WTF? so they should just build a big square building without any artistic component?

I endorse this building AND the flag. I know it is unpopular to do so at this time, but they are both are aestheticly pleasing to the landscape of Port-of-Spain. There are some cars on the road that cost more than 2 mill.

Perhaps a Square building would have been preferable

It was designed to look nice, but from my friends in the performing arts it is acoustically unsuitable to, and laid out badly for:

Dance
Drama
Singing
Instruments

What on earth was it buit for then? Other than to be another example of how trinis have so much money we don't know what to do with it

I can't believe allyuh praising the government on this one... trinis easy to fool yes, just make it shiny and allyuh proud

Its amazing that there are ppl that cannot see the benefits of such an undertaking for our country...the potential goods that can come out of it...only if TRINIDADIANS see them and make them happen...

Bear in mind that i'm scantily making the comment that...most of the clowns who complain about tax payers money being misused...don't pay taxes and prob shouldn't even have a say because they make no true contribution to taxes or other govt systems etc...Anyhow...

in reality...there are going to have more fools down here that could never comprehend such a milestone in Trinidads cultural and structural development and quite frankly...I'm glad ...not everyone will be above the cut as some say...
Its just another way for those who are worth the effort to be rewarded...and I'm not even talking about financially...

If you are one of these non narrow minded, uneducated no class, untravelled and uncivil trinis that we are surrounded by....good...kept yourself out of there and from the rest of us ...the others don't need thoese kinds of ppl to keep this amazing country as backward as it already is...

onward with progress...and Cheers to Udecott...for once "they" cannot talk their regular rubbish...

Well i hope all the ppl and their families that argue for it and appreciate its awe never ever need a hospital, never need a major operation, never drive on the bad roads again, never get rob, never get rape cause so much need fixing before we can dance and celebrate over a structure like that. Our country is being plundered and poisoned and some of you want to pat those so called leaders on their back! everyone pays taxes may it be vat or paye and have a right to reap the rewards of paying taxes. if some of you think you are so educated, think again, all the degrees in the world dont matter if you can see the truth. there is more i can say but i think i just wastin my time since clearly the gas fumes have damaged your brains.

Rapido, virtually every single person pays tax in some form or another in this country. From the percentage that is added onto your fuel bill everytime you fill your gas tank, to VAT on most goods and services, to the taxes that are taken from your salary at the end of every month.

As minute as it might seem to you, it adds up and it makes us all stakeholders in what this money is used for. If you had a financial advisor or investment consultant that you gave your money to every month, you too would have something to say if he/she misspent your money regardless of how noble their intentions might be. The same applies here as these people are like a board of directors appointed to manage a company put there to plan how OUR money is spent. Inefficient and incompetent boards are removed!

They talking first world status, well in first world countries the taxpayers that fund these projects are consulted via referendum. And judging from how I paying health surcharge every month yet cannot go to a public health institution if I get sick, or that I sit for hours in traffic daily losing national productivity because they cannot get it together to manage the traffic situation properly, or by the fact that I cannot park my car at the mall without worrying if it'll be there when I return or if I'll be alive to return to it, THIS WAS A WASTE OF MONEY!

My point is the idea was noble but there were other alternatives given our more pressing needs and the downturn in the global economy.

Move yuh balisier from in front yuh face and maybe d brain god give yuh might start workin!

Let's face it, the average person is not going to benefit from this NAPA. I still believe if the Gov't wants to spend on infrastructure, they should start with -
1. replace all water mains to the side of the road,
2. upgrade and maintain all road
3. All road should have proper drains
3. Spend money that will benefit the everyday life of the citizens of the country
4. Set up an agency to take complaints from the citizens to feed to the gov't to determine where citizens are crying out for better infrastructure.

An example, the Chase village and Endevour flyover should be replaced by overpasses.
The road infront the Chase Village Gas station is in need of serious repair, when people line up to go to the Gas Station, traffic crawls. The gov't should come up with policies where Gas Stations should be built a certain size to facilitate a certain number of cars. To make it worse everyone slows down to go down into potholes.

I just want the gov't to listen to the population and try to make their life easier.

Once it big and shiny... is ah milestone

Do we even care about VALUE for money?

With the money they spent building one CENTRE, couldn't they have built 6 (1 in tobago)) smaller satellite academies/halls?

Who decides that putting yet another big friggin project in POS is a good idea?

Why attempt to benefit the whole country when you can build something pretty outside the Prime minister window

A Performing Arts Center may be necessary for a country, but still a low priority when compared to the state of the Health, Security and Education ministries.

The hospitals are in dire need of repair. Beds are always in shortage.
Many schools are dilapidated and require immediate funding for repairs.
The pass rate for CXC Basic English and Maths is hovering around 50%.
The TTPS, MOE, Licensing Offices needs to be updated from paper to a proper electronic standard.
Many of roads in south would damage your car and need repaving desperately.
People go without water for days or even weeks at a time.
The price of food has risen by 25 - 50% in the last 2 years.

When you travel abroad and see their facilities, you don't think they got their basic sheit together before they focused on mega culture and arts projects?

This PAC is clearly a higher priority for Rapido. You need to fix your sense or priorities before calling the general populous narrow minded, untravelled, uncivil, low class and uneducated.

but apparently for this administration, these mega projects that sucking $$$ from the treasury would help us immensely in terms of health, education, security and the price levels of commodities.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion,

I haven't seen the building as yet, but as long as it benefits US all, I have no problem with it.
At least the money is being spent here in Trinidad, unlike some persons who was taking we tax money in the earlies and shipping it to LONDON bank account lol.
It's about time T&T start to progress, slowly but surely.

Next step is WATER for All 8-)

once they have the following criteria then?

- PNM Membership Card
- Look, Speak and Smell like a GUNTA
- Not educated but know a thing or two about local, regional and international African music and associated instruments
- Own a compact Japanese roll-on roll-off car namely Sunny N16, B15, Altis, Lancer, Civic equipped with RICE, alot of ICE, CRIMS, illegal blue, green and red lights, fake leather interiors and lack of tint.

well GUNTAS are now officially HD like Machel.

****i went last night to see the place and the water have plastic bottles and empty chicken and chips boxes floating around, they walking all over the just planted plants and other decorative shrubs, the parking lot have "ah set of" oil leaks from them people Sunny's and other related nonsense they walking and touching what the cleaners just mop and wipe since in tiles and glass all over. So, like the new Tranquillity Gov't School that was opened 2 months ago these expensive structures will be destroyed by the said GUNTlets and GUNTAS in record time.

Very unfortunate that you're limited to making a narrow-minded, racist remark like that but it takes all types to make the world go round...carry on...

As beautiful as the structure is, inside and out. There are a number of fundamental design flaws. (and I mean REAL screw-ups).

Not sure about the stage not looking smooth, but believe me it is, along with several hydraulically assisted portions that can be interchanged seamlessly during a production. The stage dwarfs Queen's Hall's stage in every dimension as well the rigging. It's really amazing. However, the stage also has it's flaws.

Seats are comfy, ample leg room, unlike Queen's Hall, and the sound is said to be incredible.

Pity the fountains outside aren't illuminated by RGB LEDs, as that would REALLY make a mind-blowing show.

Oleander wrote:

It's very bittersweet actually because it enhances our country but creates no real real value.

I'll assume you didn't read the part at the beginning of this thread that says that first and foremost, this is an ACADEMY.

How can you say that it "creates no real value"?

I seeing the true racists coming out these days. No wonder I never went any 'Tuner lime' and thing :? Carry on
