well, link you're the first person who asked about tilapia and know what he wants
you're right though, SFC has balls for starting your own project.

can i ask why you want the reds for? (they look cool...) the black tilapia tastes best apparently and holds most nutritional value among the three varieties we deal with here.

some of the guys at school have mini-breeding projects going....i'll ask and see who has closest to what you want.

for starters, pure red females will give u red offspring always, even with silver males
secondly , these mixed offspring (red/silver) have the fast growth characteristics of the silvers.
.
the outcome is a 'nice' fish BOTH for eating or aquarium purposes.
.
I have abt 33 male mixed 'reds', now 13mths old & over 2lbs/14 inches long (part of another project going well) .
.
the breeding project got scrubbed because of queries with the genetic proofing of the YY 'supermale' I wanted. The issues are resolved now, but I am 2yrs stalled at the moment.

if space is an issue u can still go deeper. recommended depth for koi is at least 3 ft. this would also help prevent birds eating ur fish and stop ur water from getting too hot.

other than koi i guess u can put small cichlids, goldfish. lots of other fish would work too. i have an aro in mine. to me koi are the best fish for a pond. they look best from above.

Chai in Mausica has possibly the widest & best-priced selections for pond apps.......
I got plenty stuff from him (inclu medium sized blower pump, submersibles, silicone air lines. )

Dude, PondMasters Pumps are fairly good and last about 2-3 yrs non stop. When sizing a pump u need one that can turn over the water in 1hr,So if you got a 500 gallon pond u will need a pump that can turn over 500 gallon in 1hr.
---zoom raider pg 38 of this post

I replaced the pumps-Installed new pond masters a 250 and 350-theyre attached to 2 box filters-
-- red man pg 38

I have used little giant for "small" scale containers 3 ft x 2 x 2 and they work very vell
-----cornfused pg 38

Get the New Pondmaster PRO-HY-DRIVEâ„¢ Pumps.
That's what I am using in me 4000g and it working go

^check Agri-Flora, on Aranguez Main Rd just off the highway, large horticulture centre on your right hand side. visited them last week, got some uber plants for the kitchen and garden and saw they sell pond liner as well, in packages though, didn't notice if they sell by the ft.

lacking a number, but i'm sure they're listed.

go to P-a-P reservoir (hope u know someone in d camp).
collect yr specimens...sanitise (wash clean), put them in quarantine for 2-3 weeks &...presto..........'clean' water plants for your place !
.
I've done the same with these & the cabbage lillies collected from Woodland.....
you will need to put in the changed water from your other tanks (in order to provide necessary nutrients for the plants during quarantine)

We just can't compete with external suppliers. Imagine you getting frozen fillets from China cheaper than what we can produce locally. :?

the chinese have minimum input & use the 'pen-over-pond' method..ie..pig, goat, chicken, duck pens over the gorw-out ponds, so that the refuse (faeces, waste food, etc) are washed into the pond to supplement the feed input.
.
This is a dangerous practice, apart from health issues with the product (fish), religous rights are infringed (yes, the pig faeces being eaten by the fish)...
WHY, PRAY TELL, IS GOVT ALLOWING UNSCRUPULOUS BUSINESSMEN TO FCUK UP TRINIDADIAN SO ??

Apart from OBVIOUSLY squeezing upcoming tilapia farmers...don't mind trini businessmen want to control their own little kingdom here too...

I recently saw one, very impressive results with his plants.

yea i tried the Co2 fertilization system... its best to use that in a tank with no fishes cause wen i was done my angels and zerbras looked "high".
its simple, i used a mixture of suger, water and yeast in a two liter bottle with a hole in the cap. Tubing is connected to the bottle and to a submergable pump for distribution in the tank. It works best in addition to subtrate and water fertilization. .... and its homem made...
Razcal ... thanks for the plant food tabs..
