usually that's not the case...

my experience.. is that everyone who is in a hurry runs up the left lane till their right behind the backhoe... then they cut in front of the faster moving cars in the right lane... guy slams on the brakes... and it's a trickle effect...

so what you get is TWO lanes of traffic...

then it's not really the fault of the backhoe but the drivers of the other cars that cause the pile up?

yes... and no

it's a combination of many things... the first of which being the fact that wheel tractors aren't supposed to be on highways...

which in turn leads to the above situation... while the other drivers have a part to play... the root cause is the backhoe operator...

i still disagree if the driver of the other vehicles overtake and merge into the next lane seamlessly then there would be no repercussions.......

we share the road ways of trinidad with lots of things that should not be there
(people, animals, wrong type of vehicles) but i really don't see the problem with them being there, what i see to be the problem is the amount of drivers and also the type of those drivers......

if those same drivers that in the fast lane were to just slow their pace for a lil while and courteously allow the drivers in the slow lane to overtake the tractor.
Then there would not be a pile up would there?

not that primitive... the laws actually state the wheel tractors (and mopeds and something else) aren't allowed on highways...

but is a backhoe considered a "farm" equitment or otherwise? And then so the question come up, what's the point of paying to lisence and insure a backhoe if I'm gonna make it a trailer queen? And then two this same situation can be filtered down to minor roads no?

I really don't believe that you drive...
if you do you are probably @ the age of 60 who moves @40km/h on the highway.
Hence the reason it doesn't bother you.

I see you also posted that you've been driving for four years...so maybe you got your license at 56?

Any slow moving vehicle on the highway causes a pile up of traffic. The backhoe isn't supposed to be there in the first place. Why should the other hundreds of drivers be inconvenienced for the one driver who should NOT be there.

^^^I believe transporting it otherwise is very difficult. Towing it on a trailor is very hard to pass under flyovers and towing it behind a truck well that is like an accident waiting to happen. I am frustrated the same way as you are with the traffic, but what do you think can be another option for them?

Tuner Imports, one option could be to have certain hours when they can be on the highway and when not to be... simple.

why have them drive on the shoulder?

and then if someone is on the shoulder with a breakdown or something, what will the backhoe driver do? can't expect him to pull on the left lane all of a sudden.

the shoulder is an emergency/breakdown lane only.

the backhoe's move so slowly that it shouldnt be a problem to slow down wayyyy in advance,,

and if they have to wait 5,10,15 mins to pull out then so be it.

Better for them to be inconvenienced than the other drivers.

I've seen some backhoe drivers drive on the shoulder...however, because of the width their right back tire is on the line.
It still causes cars to slow down and proceed with caution, but at least it doesn't cause a huge build up.....since the cars can continue on the left lane.

they shouldn't be allowed to drive on the shoulder... having a wheel tractor on the shoulder of the highway is breaking 2 laws instead of 1

i don't see a problem with them being on trailers... cranes on trucks pass under the flyovers all the time

worse case... there's always the main roads

Yes it's breaking a law but it's better than having an accident every morning/day.

So if a backhoe must move on the highway they should be placed on trailers which are hauled by trucks that are limited to safely drive within the region of 80-12okm/h not so?

ok now you are just being an arse about it now........ i'm 24 years old and i drive as fast as i can. I'm able to say that backhoes are not the problem because while driving i pay attention to the road and the other vehicles ahead of me..... if i see a lane slowing down and i'm able to change lanes then i just do, i would not stay behind a vehicle that driving slowly then complain about them.

if I'm in the right hand lane and see a car in the left lane wants to overtake the vehicle in front of them, and I'm able to slow down with out adversely affecting the traffic behind me then i allow then to go.......
I'm not going to sit in the right hand lane and just because i know i can go faster than the other vehicle i don't allow them out.... it's called courtesy try it someday its contagious.......

This isnt even debatable

Backhoes and other Vehicles of that ilk should not be permitted on the roads (at least during peak hours)

They slow the pace of traffic, are dangerous if involved in a collision with a regular automobile.

Exactly, if only the police used to actually ENFORCE the laws rather than test driving the new Kias and Navaras.

They should amend the law to prohibit heavy equipment/dump trucks from using the highway during peak hours.......and confine them to the main roads for that time.

Too often, we have two trucks playing racer boy on boths lanes....at speeds just around an amazing 50 kmh, while they continue their barrage of stones on your front bumpers.
