Guys, wrt the tyre, I believe he was about to change lanes and skidded on maybe some oil or diesel or maybe some broken glass/plastic from recent accidents cuz from what I saw on the highway close to the scene was a lot of that, which I know for sure did not come from his car.

just to respond to the side discussion on drunk driving / breathalyser etc, SPEED is the #1 cause of accidents..........well to be more precise, too much speed for prevailing conditions is the #1 cause...........alcohol just ups the risk factor of speed

my wife and i were on our usual sunday drive from grocery when i saw this. I stoppped and helped pull the battery pole etc.

From what i saw the car just stepped out during the lane change.. Could have been the uneven pavement or something, but the car got away quickly. When it hit the pole i thought it looked horrible, but I was glad to see somehow he was alive in the back seat.

glad to hear he is doing well

Sry to hear bout the car but it also good to know the driver is ok. Another place to be carefull is from courts maga store to El Socorro lights east bound lane that is a REALLY REALLY uneven piece of highway. I coming down there a night about 100km center lane and nearly lost control because of the mess there. So be careful peeps. I also saw the accident before Monroe road saturday night around 11pm i reached about 15min after it happen sad to see the guy died cause im 100% sure the if he was wearing his seatbelt he would have lived. The inside of that car was intact SEATBELT SAVE LIVES defensive driving 101.

Silvermike, I didn't realize that was you sir! I was just trying to be there for him and was oblivious for that time being to anyone around. Thanks very much for the assistance, and for the eyewitness report too.

I went to the hospital tonite....he will be there for a few days. His forearm is either broken or fractured, either way it is in a cast, his right knee is swollen badly but not broken; the doctors have to keep syringing the fluid build up. He has been ordered to not eat or drink anything as he is being fed intravenously for the time being. But thankfully otherwise he is in good shape and no big pain.

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes and support.

For those who did not get a chance to see in passing. There's a pic of the car on Pg. 9 of today's Guardian.

Damm lucky to be alive from the picture shown in the papers.

Glad to know that the injuries are not worse than reported.

Convinced that as a motor sport competitor he would have taken evasive action that helped to minimize the damage to himself - reminder to all that you are not infallible!

Actually, as a motorsport competitor he took evasive action to minimize damage to anyone else, but in so doing he ended up taking the brunt of the damage. If his car did not line up with the pole on the drift, he may have scrubbed off enough speed to avoid rolling by the time he got to the ditch, but daz all speculation.
