lets jus say a couple hundred gigs.... prolly one or two TB in data,
how would u store ur data?
or what would u recommend?
note: *its gonna fill up pretty fast, 1 hour recorded in HD = 11.3GB*

invest in a good hard drive and do a RAID systemfor redundancy and you should be good to go......otherwise get a DLT....

or burn off to some dual sided dual layered dvd discs

parchment (once the air is sufficiently dry)
stone tablets (but do not subject to sudden drops or vibration)

Invest in a SAN, pays for itself depending on how valuable your data is.

I would say tape since you said "store" rather than keep the data directly available
however, for availability, you would should look into a raid configuration, SAS drives (solid state is just unjustifiably expensive for that quantity of data, perhaps just for the OS and app not data), since SAS is approx 4x the price of SATA you could alternately go with a mix of SAS (critical data) Raid 5 and SATA drives (replaceable data) and use higher levels of drive redundancy Raid 1

of caourse you would need an enclosure and controllers and OS capable of using all this so an external storage unit is usually the best option so yes an entry level SAN or a "good" NAS, of course, you could even build one on the cheap with I suppose with enough research, Tape would make a good addition to all that realtime backup for offline storage incase of corruption eg from some kinda raging evil virus.

doh count on that compressed rate btw remember video is not likely to compress much further

if is vids yuh wokkin on i would assume you want to access this data some what frequently tapes are slow and not very reliable neither are they durable egs exposure to sunlight, magnets etc

as another 2ner suggested, if youre hell bent on reliablity i woud say go with a RAID 1 (mirroring) config. it would cost more and "wastes" space but the price of this "wastage" is what you pay for reliability

then i'd say optical media (DVD's) for, well anything that is compleated or doesnt need to be editied further that is of course if you can/ or willing to split the files

$0.02

i doh think the man gonna be walking around with his tapes eh

safely stored tapes are extremely reliable for archiving (which i assumed he wanted to do with his vids)

well true he aint go be walkin rong wid d tapes but i was more targeting constant usage and access time then again i dont know how frequently he's gonna access this data

but with the advent for optical media i jus doh really rate up tapes again nah :? storage space on DVD's tho suck compared to the rest :x

lol.... thanks again all....
but dvds are out of the question thou, i mean the single file size per hour (63min tape) is 12gb, isnt a dvd ~4.7gb?
and to go tru converting to a smaller file size may cause loss of quality @ times maybe.

or i could prolly jus buy this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/100-Sony-Premium-Mi ... 7C294%3A50

and label da phoq out of them....

Try that for the price, availability and reliability.
