Medical question.....

Postby pablo_tt » August 8th, 2008, 11:46 am

An ambulance was transporting a young male, 29 years old, to a hospital, but I beleive at the request of the family, diverted to a doctor's office next door to by me. Unfortunately, the guy died. Either he died in the doctor's office or the ambulance, not 100% sure. Now after all the bawling, crying and calling of people, they took the man, bundled him into a pickup and drove off with him.

I have a couple of questions:

-Would the ambulance workers come under fire for diverting to the doctor's office?
-If the man died in the doctor's office, would they be able to take him out of the office just like that?
-What would now happen to the doctor as he had to deal with this man? Would he have to answer to anyone? (police , DMO, family etc etc)

at the request of the family,

hmph, ambulance making short drop.

AFAIK, the ONLY place they supposed to take you is to the Hospital, the crew on-board the ambulance should be well-trained enough to stabilise the patient until they arrive at the hospital whereupon the necessary evaluation and care is to be given by a Dr. and staff.

One thing to note, the ambulance that was there drove of rather quickly after the news was delivered to the relatives.

But would the doctor be in anything having dealt with the deceased?
Should the relatives have wait for police or someone in authority before driving off with his body?

They just took him out of the office and drove off to who knows where.

if he died...shouldn't the body have to be examined by a DMO before being removed??
it sounds suspect though.....y divert to a private practice?
wonder why he needed medical emergency?

was the ambulance in question a GMRTT one? If so they can only carry the patient to a public hospital. not sure if that applies to private ambulances.

Also we dont know if the emergency was very critical warranting them to get a doctors assistance and not wait till they get to a hospital.

EHS ambulance

One thing I observed was after they took the man out, they took out limocol and this other liquid in a bottle (the green one with the penguin on it). So I am guessing they were trying to cool him down

the real run down....

Postby uttam » August 8th, 2008, 11:25 pm

hey guys i am the neighbour to the guy that died this morning at the doctors office.......what really happened was that my friend fell ill and the family called the ambulance.....but since the ambulance did respond on time....they took him to the nearest doctor....as another one of my friend laid him on the doctors bed....he died.....the doctor did his best, as a professional should have done....but to no avail....he still died....the ambulance finally arrived...The doctor filled out the papers for the body to be removed to the hospital.....so my friends had to take the deceased themselves......so there is two sides of the story......

The ambulance refused to take the body to the hospital.....(dont understand why as the doctor filled out relavant papers to move body)...as for the cause of death....we are awaiting an autopsy to be done on monday.....but apparently he was in the hospital earlier that same morning and was discharged....reason for discharge...they said he was fine....mind u he was vomiting blood and had problems breathing....they decided they would take him to a private institution.....he got home at around 5am....while his father was making breakfast for him, he went to shower...and fell down......when it was relealised that the ambulance did not respond....my other friends decided to take him to the nearest doctor...in curepe...and well....u know the rest......

1. you can call the GMR ambulances to do patient transports to a private medical institution for a fee.....this is pre arrange via, phone call or verbally on the scene by next of kin ......

2. if you are being treated at a doctor and you die, the DMO or police doesn't have to be notified...unless foul play is suspected.

3. The removal of dead patients is not for the ambulance/s.....the funeral home removes a dead person/s ....
