Ok folks, just came from the S&R.

The facts are as follows,

Hikers went in 83, 2 got washed away attempting to aviod heavy waters. Still missing.

81 came out.

Fire S&R, Police, Defence Force are conducting operations to find the missing two. Visibiliy and Communications difficult. More operations to continue tomorrow.

its not a matter of hiking in this weather , how experienced were they or the guide really , when crossing any moderately abnoraml river a rope should be tied to the banks no.....

i hope this does not turn out too bad

83 is a lot of people to cross a river at once
how could so many cross and not see the others having problems and not try to avoid crossing

Please everyone, let's not look at the right and wrong and who is responsible, there are two people missing out there. Everyone please say a pray that they are found and returned safely and alive more importantly.

I don't think hiking guides know what a harness is. They still use big stick.

8 hikers swept away by river
Monday, July 14th 2008

Arima police, Task Force officers and members of the army were last night searching the Heights of Guanapo for a group of hikers who went missing.

Reports last night were still sketchy, but police said the group of 70 were returning home when eight of them were swept away by a swollen river they were trying to cross just after 6 p.m.

Of the others, 32 were accounted for and 30 were presumed lost.

Folks the news article is incorrect.

I was there as part of the S&R. Up to 6pm some had not come out but the emerged at 8pm or sometime there after.

We took a nex hr getting the manifest corrected and accounting for everybody by name. Two were missing and searches are continuing as I am typing this now.

We are still hopeful.

As for the safety harnesses etc, both were wearing a harness, one had on a life jacket. The one with the jacket fell in and pulled the other one as they were tied together.

People stop jumping to conclusions and use that energy to pray for the missing and their families.
