Bermuda Revokes Visa-Free Access for T&T Nationals
CNC3 Editor
July 18, 2025

Effective July 17th, the Government of Bermuda now requires T&T passport holders to have a valid Canadian, UK or US visa to enter the country. On July 16th, Bermuda’s Ministry of Economy and Labour revoked the Bermuda Immigration and Protection (Prohibition of Entry) Order 2025 and replaced it with the Bermuda Immigration and Protection (Prohibition of Entry) (No. 2) Order 2025.

Under the new regulations, T&T nationals can enter Bermuda two ways:

Possess valid travel authorisation to enter and re-enter Canada, the United Kingdom, or the United States, with such authorisation valid for at least 45 days from their intended departure from Bermuda;

OR

Produce a current letter from the Government confirming that they are a spouse of a Bermudian or that they belong to Bermuda under section 11(5) of the Bermuda Constitution Order 1968.

The ministry said the order “reflects ongoing immigration policy reviews and adjustments”.

It came into effect on July 17th.

Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory.

On March 12th the United Kingdom announced it was making changes to its visa policy – requiring with immediate effect, that all T&T nationals obtain a visa before travelling. Ireland implemented a similar policy on May 9th.

Minister of State for Migration Colm Brophy at the time stating the decision was made to “bring Ireland into closer alignment with the United Kingdom”.

Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Minister Sean Sobers was expected to meet with UK officials on Friday to discuss the visa policy. Guardian Media reached out to Sobers for an update, and we await his response.

Bermuda is a crown territory, no? With UK visa policy for us, I suppose this is a knock down effect

I went with a boat once. Didn't stay too long. Prices were insane for regular things. More expensive than Switzerland or Scandinavia. Prices to make a regular Trini kiss the ground when they get back.

You guys are missing the elephant in the room. Trinbagonians have been branded as undesireable to have in other people's countries. Sit back and ask yourselves why

Realize not many persons got the update:

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS CLARIFIES BERMUDA'S ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO NATIONALS

Published on: 19 Jul 2025

The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs wishes to provide important clarifications regarding recent reports on Bermuda's updated entry requirements for Trinidad and Tobago nationals, specifically an article published by CNC3 News titled, "Bermuda Revokes Visa-Free Access for T&T Nationals."

While the article suggests that Bermuda now requires Trinidad and Tobago passport holders to possess a valid Canadian, UK, or US visa for entry, the headline could potentially be misleading given the practicalities of travel between our two nations. In an effort to correct this Immediately, it should be noted that BERMUDA DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY NATIONAL OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO TO POSSESS A VISA TO ENTER BERMUDA as that country remains a Trinidad and Tobago VISA Free destination. This was confirmed in discussions between the Hon. Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and the Hon. E. David Burt, JP, MP, Premier of Bermuda on 19th July 2025.

Further, it is crucial for the public to note that this narrative arose, solely based upon the fact, that there are no direct flights from Trinidad and Tobago to Bermuda. All travellers from Trinidad and Tobago to Bermuda are required to transit through a third country, most commonly the United States of America, Canada, or the United Kingdom.

The USA and Canada have had long-standing visa requirements for Trinidad and Tobago nationals. The United Kingdom recently imposed a visa requirement for Trinidad and Tobago nationals, which came into effect on 12th March, 2025. Given that travel to Bermuda necessitates transit through one of these countries, and with the recent imposition of a visa requirement by the United Kingdom, it logically follows that Bermuda adjust its entry requirements, in an effort to comprehensively share information related to its entry, to align with the transit policies of these key gateways. Therefore, the new requirement by Bermuda, reflects a practical adjustment considering these established and evolving international transit regulations.

To this end, the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs utilised official diplomatic channels and caused for a conversation to occur between himself and Premier the Honourable Edward David Burt on this issue, who reassured the Minister of the position as articulated in Paragraph One (1) above. Additionally, Trinidad and Tobago will be forwarding a missive on this matter within the coming days to Bermuda, to allow for a formal response to be further positively espoused on this issue. Trinidad and Tobago’s ties and Diplomatic relations remain extremely high and positive between the two nations.

The Ministry continues to engage with international partners to ensure that the interests of Trinidad and Tobago nationals are appropriately represented in global travel policies. Most recently, the Honourable Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, along with the Minister of Legal Affairs and Minister of Justice met with senior Officials of the UK Home Office to discuss inter alia a framework which could potentially lead to an adjustment of the Visa requirement for Trinidad and Tobago nationals travelling to the UK.

In the interim, we advise all citizens planning international travel to consult the official entry requirements of both their destination and any transit countries well in advance of their journey.
