Phillip realized after his 2020 election loss that Trinidad have no belly for third parties, at least for now. I believe Gary and Mickela knew this also but was hoping to split votes enough and win either St Joseph (NTA) or Couva North (PF) to be "kingmaker" if there is a tie. This will then force Kamla in some sort of accommodation to form a government.

Whatever Phillip motives were, his gamble last year to endorse and support the UNC has paid off. He probably realized that the best way to become powerful is to join either one of the two established political parties (in this case, the UNC) and work his way up.

I don't see him challenging Kamla in any major way because where he is right now is the best position politically he has ever been so far.

Phillip is a political nobody who is of little or no relevance in the current dispensation. He speaks of disbanding his 'party' as if it was ever some force to be reckoned with and that its existence has ever had any meaningful impact on the political landscape. The truth is that it has been a non entity from inception led by a delusional idiot with a sordid history in the business community who managed to assemble a team of equally laughable nobodies with political aspirations that may likely never get off the ground. His style is one of loud, arrogant, annoying ole talk mixed with seeming mental disillusion as he seems to think that if he simply ignores his past, it would disappear. In actuality while he may have been able to 'impress' some of the less informed among us, the mere sight or sound of him triggers strong feelings of disgust among those of us who are all too familiar with his past.

It is for this reason among others the 'coalition of interests' with pea involved raised many red flags among some members of the public. Now that the UNC has emerged victorious, it may be that kpb has some special eventual plan for him or maybe she realised early enough that he adds no real value and has quietly kicked him to the curb.

My personal hope is the latter but we shall see in time

Since Kamla is the Prime Minister, she is entitled to sixteen senate appointments. Currently, she has only named and appointed eight. The opposition hasn't announced their six yet, and it's up to the President to re-appoint the nine she has currently.

Back to my earlier point, Phillip could become a senator when the last 8 for the government side is announced by Kamla.

Remember Kamla can revoke his appointment at any time, then you would have the President and Vice-President of the Senate who would be UNC. If he does go rogue, it would be quashed quickly.
