Decals on vehicles

Postby timelapse » March 21st, 2025, 10:37 am

Question:
What are the legal implications of decals on a vehicle according to the law?
Case in point being the stripes/splashes etc that come with some vehicles especially pickups.
Can they make you remove it?
Do you have to register it etc?
I am also specifically referring to the ones without any text

Full wraps need transport commissioner approval afaik.
But small decals and stuff, may need permission, but if your car is registered with it from factory, I guess it's like fog lights, already approved. You might need a letter I'm not sure.

that so subjective eh
A new vehicle with graphics needs to have the colours reflected in the cert copy when it's being registered, but it's seldom done
Even worse, I have owned two MINI Coopers, one silver, one blue, both with black roofs...in both cases, they are registered as silver and blue. No mention of black. So far it has never been an issue, but I know technically it's wrong and the black has to be stated on the cert.
The whole system is a subjective mess
