Massy's "extra lean" ground beef is disgusting. mostly gristle.
Been that way for 5 years now. I dunno where the heck they're getting that.

Xtrafoods ftw where lean ground is concerned

Nah man, 3 times out of 3 it was bad. There are inedible stringy sinewy pieces of "meat" mixed into their LEAN ground beef. Massy's fresh meat is mostly fine, but frozen is a no-no for me.

yeah, and I do shop around. I'm very picky with meat.

you have a food processor right? If you're that picky with meat you would never buy ground beef in the grocery, but instead get cuts from a local butcher in the market and make your own.

I got a chipped tooth from chewing on a bone fragment in a pastelle made with minced beef from massy

minced meat is a hit and miss in general because all them place throwing the left over ends into the mincer

Minced lamb is a fav of mine, but I got some hits and misses at a few big supermarkets.
If I had a halfway good grinder I'd have done my own grinds, and even tried to make my own sausage.

Tried to use my Oster food processor to make minced goat, but that was disastrous

I have a "Ninja Master Prep" food processor and it made minced pork easily minus the skin. Even grated cassava in it to make pone the other day. Just cut up the cassava small enough and the thing came out like grated mash. The dry coconut got the same treatment.

they can't ban it. last time the US Embassy issued a statement talking about USDA and free trade all kind jackassness when that tyson chicken became a topic. the most the minister could do is say it doh taste good but even that might get an embassy press release

i don't eat chicken often but i don't see the problem. the other day I get a big leg and thigh portion and that make me feel real good on a very deep level. i did get fried rice, pasta salad, and a big leg and thigh. One of these days I going back to get some more once the money come een

The imported frozen chicken is definitely lower quality than our local grown stuff.
Even goat/lamb, when you buy it fresh vs supermarket or PQM it's leagues apart.

Is one meat more regulated than the other?

nah, it might just be a matter of the megafarming techniques vs small scale TT farming. That's why the bourgeoise would chase "free range" and pay big money for it there compared with their usual shelf sheit. Megafarms have industrial scale feeding/medication/treatment pattens.

We basically have that here.

Another thing is the freeze/ partial thaw cycles that the imported meat would undergo before ending up in your fridge. Although refrigerated containers are a thing, you have it changing hands quite a few times between exporting in the US to landing in your basket.

The chicken does smell, taste and look stink.
The beef and goat etc mostly tolerable.

Don't even talk about the dirt-cheap frozen bulk turkey!
That gray thing they does be selling looks terrifying. I wonder who in their right minds would even buy that.

the chicken will be different since they will be using different breeds for their climate and growing conditions and super fast growth feeds etc
it’s not apples and apples comparison

they only eat turkey breast in usa
the rest of it is treated as discards…..

Maybe Trini companies should switch who they buy frozen chicken from. I buy frozen leg quarters by the box here in Brazil for 7 TTD a kilogram, and the quality is excellent.

You more concerned with Guyana….focus on buying a piece of land there na?

The Tyson et cetera frozen chicken still decent enough you can feed to pets if you cook for them opposed to chow.

Tyson does taste nasty but it cheap and all dem chinee fast food shops use it or other inported frozen leg and thigh. Most do not support the local poultry industry.
