First time parent seeking recommendations

Postby Carbon12 » September 4th, 2024, 10:30 am

Hi tuners so I am becoming a parent very soon, (one month till due) so I was looking around for deals on where has the best quality and prices or baby items such as :
Cribs
Strollers
Car seats
Clothes
Baby supplies (bottles pampers etc)
Also pediatrics.
Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated and anything I left out feel free to contribute.
Have a great day all!

It's been a while but I know Gopaul Lands Baby Store has a huge selection of cribs, strollers, car seats and other baby supplies.
Can't beat pricesmart for their prices on Pampers and baby wipes.

couple things: get a Diaper Genie https://amzn.to/3z2nCyF - you'll be thankful you have it.
Just buy a smart security camera instead of those expensive baby monitors. Wyze is a good choice for the money. Amazon has a special right now for the pan/tilt/zoom model for just $30 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BX7FM4D9/re ... =3ne2nr-20

Its been 6 years since I bought infants stuff but in my experience to get the most bang for your buck you need to shop around between Pennywise and Pricesmart for sure. In the Pampers line Pricesmart may have been cheaper on most sizes however I believe Pennywise in Size 3 had a box with more diapers than worked out to a cheaper unit cost than Pmart. There was one other size the same applied (could be 6). Also Pampers Swaddlers was only found in Pennywise back then.
With regards to formula Bryden PI (used to be in Barataria now in Macoya) sold Enfamil by the case and this worked out cheaper than any store (Pmart or Pennywise incuded) on a per unit basis. OFC this requires a fair outlay but the formula has a long shelf life. I used to buy two cases at a time.

Locally Gopual lands then had the best prices and widest variety on Car Seats however every now and again Pricemart used to bring in infants stuff like playpens, car seat stroller combos and their prices were the cheapest. Shoppers Freezone has a line of no name strollers and car seats that much cheaper than the branded ones.

First, congratulations. Second say goodbye to a full nights sleep for the next few months.

As said Pricesmart and Pennywise have the best prices for wipes and diapers. The Pricesmart store brand diapers and wipes I find to be the best value. Huggies for training diapers.

Also Bryden PI in Macoya for formula, but you have to determine what the baby likes first. Same thing for pacifiers.

Your family and friends may also be a source of things like strollers, crib and car seat. Note that car seats have expiry dates. They could recommend a paediatrician as well.

I ocean freighted a car seat via Seabox, it cost less than buying locally. The cheap brands down here tend to be hit or miss. Stick with Graco, Britax, Chicco and other well known brands. The car seat will cost less than the penalty for not having it. Car seats don't have duties.

You'll need to get a baby bag to carry formula, bottles, clothes, diapers, wipes, medicine etc.. That goes with the baby everywhere.

And there's a baby thread already:

i would recommend this place next to carlton center in sando. prices reasonable.

https://www.facebook.com/jaystoybox.co/
https://jaystoyboxtt.com/

i would recommend buying the cheapest thing because kids outgrow it fast. also no shame in using hand-me-downs for the same reason

pay attention to guidelines for setting up crib, mattress, etc and baby proofing. safety FIRST

I'd highly recommend Dr. Vidya Ramcharitar as your paediatrician. She is located on Austin Street St. Augustine. She is also in charge of Mt. Hope pediatrics. She is a personal friend and exceptional at what she does.

Price smart and pennywise for pampers and wipes. Bryden for enfamil gentle ease.
But the Graco adjustable carseat from Gopaul lands. Good until they outgrown it.
If in south Dr Kerryn Brahim in southern medical is great.

Recaro has some slick baby and child seats. But I noticed their website doesn't have the wide range they used to have.

Keep in mind that baby and child car seats have expiry dates - so check that when buying.

Before u buy car seat and stroller
You can compare the prices locally to what u can get on amazon since both doesnt carry duty only 12.5 vat
Ship via seabox to save even more just note the time frame
I never regretted buying the britax stroller combo for a newborn and then the recaro car seat back then

As for baby bottles we tried all and dr browns worked well with not much spit ups and gas etc however i have cousins who swear by avent

Get two thermos....a large and small
Large one was in the car while the small one was in the baby bag for when you visit family, mall etc and just refill the smaller one if needed

It's been a loooooonnnngggg while since but:

1. Pampers - used to buy what was called "seconds". Cost about $100.00 for 100 in a pack back then. Not sure if that still exists today. Used to have a company across the highway in El Socorro - Kimberly-Clark if I remember correctly. Not sure if they are still in T&T.

2. Milk. Baby was breast fed. Saved a ton of money on formula.

3. Car seat. We had one but cannot remember name. Served its purpose.

4. Food - First solid food was eddoes. Plenty coconut water as well.

Car seat occupies the middle seat of your back seat.

Pricesmart was bundling samples of a diaper (forgot the brand) with the established brand diapers. I'd recommend keeping those around as desperation stocks, but they aren't good, unless pee and poop leaks are your thing.

Congrats!

The graco seat should get you to 24months.
The Recaro should get you from 2 to 7-8 years.

Pricemart and Pennywise for diapers and formula. Suggest trying a few brands/types to see which one suits your kid best, and even then don't buy more than a single case because things can change quickly. For example we needed to move from the regular formula to the gentle ease in the enfamil brand because of tummy issues.

The graco set (stroller, feeding table, car seat, playpen) is a good deal if you can find the combo. Local prices are decent due to size, but if the Mrs wants a particular style - then order from amazon and seabox it. Would take longer to reach tho.

Wipe warmer, bottle warmers are good spends. If you don't use bottled water, now might be a good time to get a 5G dispenser for home, it's cheaper to run the big bottles at 25/ea vs buying water by the case. You can wean them to tap water when they're older.

The wyze cam is much cheaper than the expensive baby monitors and does the same work.

Talk to your doc/pediatrician about crib types, the use of sheets, crib bumpers etc.

Enjoy the journey
