Vacation

Postby rexsmith » January 11th, 2024, 7:18 am

Good day, can a company mandate staff to go on vacation, for instance they say you have too many days inside so we are sending you on 1 month vacation. Is this allowed?

rex,

Yes, many companies do it and it is indicated clearly in the employee’s contract.

Accumulated vacation days is value.

the issue is legally if u accumulate over the "maximum" amount they will have to pay / buy out your leave.

Some companies have a ‘use it or lose it’ policy. If you exceed the maximum vacation carry over you either have to take the vacation or you will lose it.

Only reason pple don't take vacay is if they have something to hide or the overtime change real good.

Financially, it's accounted as liability.
So the policy helps manage/reduce the liability on the books.

Employees who don't go on vacation sometimes have things to hide,
between simple wastage and outright fraud.. "Only I know how all this works!"

And, it's good for someone else to act for you.
Helps with succession planning for when you're promoted or leave.

Also burnout is real pal.
Take the time off.

Every company is different, unless you’re in a state agency. Read the terms of your contract.

I worked for a company that did not approve of more than 5 days of vacation, they did not care if u going abroad.

I was also selected for jury service, and the company wrote to the court to have me excluded due to staff shortage. The court refused .

Right now I have about 90 days excess leave. I wanna write a letter asking them to take back 30 days.

At this point this is a management failure to adequately manage their resources
