One of the major upstream natural gas suppliers in Trinidad and Tobago has had to shut in its gas production as it deals with an unplanned technical issue. This unfortunate and untimely issue has led to a significant reduction in current gas supply which in turn has affected the end users of gas.
This unforeseen event is being given the priority urgent attention that is necessary by the upstream entity.
It is hoped that the situation will be resolved in the shortest possible timeframe.

AS many as seven plants on the Point Lisas Industrial Estate have reportedly been shut down as a result of a shortage in the supply of natural gas.

Among the plants listed by Lee as being shut down are Proman’s M2 and M3, as well as Tringen 1 and Nutrien 03.
“The incident of gas supply at Point Lisas becomes even more troubling as only yesterday the Prime Minister admitted that the Venezuelan government had not accepted the terms for the Dragon Gas deal, validating our concerns that the government should have focused on a more sustainable avenue for gas production as opposed to selling a dream with Dragon gas,” Lee stated.

WOODSIDE Energy last night confirmed that it had to shut in (close off) its offshore operations in the country as a precaution following an incident on Tuesday.
“On 25 July 2023, Woodside Energy shut in offshore production operations in Trinidad and Tobago as a precaution following a process safety incident,” a Woodside spokesperson stated yesterday following Express enquiries.
“All personnel are safe and accounted for. We are working to safely resume operations,” the energy group spokesperson stated.
Woodside’s confirmation came after the Energy Ministry had said that one of the country’s major upstream natural gas suppliers had to shut in its gas production to deal with an unplanned technical issue. “This unfortunate and untimely issue has led to a significant reduction in current gas supply which in turn has affected the end users of gas,” the Energy Ministry stated.

2023 July 12 (Reuters) - Australia's Woodside Energy Group (WDS.AX) has returned a deepwater block to the Trinidad and Tobago government after an exploration appraisal found it would be uneconomic to develop, a company spokesperson said on Wednesday.
Woodside Energy is the operator of block TTDAA 5 through a joint venture in which it holds a 65% share and Shell (SHEL.L) the remaining 35%. Woodside got into that area in 2013, and in 2018 reported that it had encountered gas at the Victoria-1 well.
"Based on wells drilled and technical studies conducted, TTDAA Block 5 demonstrated significant challenges to development, especially when considered against the high cost of a deepwater project," the Woodside spokesperson said in an email.
Woodside plans to continue studies on its other deepwater areas in Trinidad and Tobago, the blocks 23A and TTDAA 14, where it made its Calypso discoveries, the spokesperson said. The studies include appraisal results and conceptual engineering.
"Woodside is currently assessing development and commercialization options" for Calypso, the company spokesperson added. That discovery has estimated resources of 3.2 trillion cubic feet of gas.

Those who had less than a year service were only entitled to 2 weeks pay. No prior notice, nothing.
Initially I thought it might be because of the gas curtailment, but then why terminate people if the gas situation was temporary? Won't they need plant operators for the plant when it's back up and running?

When there are issues at NGC I know it causes hiccups on certain plants.
