Trevor Noah ends his run on "The Daily Show"

Postby Monk BANzai » December 9th, 2022, 1:02 pm

Good seven year run.

Trevor Noah Made the World of ‘The Daily Show’ Bigger. But his choice to leave after just seven years is a sign that late night has gotten smaller.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/07/arts ... ht-tv.html

Noah’s final appearance as the host was reportedly be on Dec. 8. After that, “The Daily Show” will take a hiatus and return in January with a group of its current correspondents rotating at the helm, such as comedians Roy Wood Jr. and Jordan Klepper of the “Fingers the Pulse” segments.

I was there for when Jon ended his run and now this...oh how time flies....

Watched it last night and it got me thinking 7 years....I remember on Jon's last episode when he came out and was using a measuring tape to check the dimensions of the desk while Jon was still sitting at it...

His pandemic coverage was pretty cool and was nice to see...he had some very colourful hoodies.

Also I was fascinated by the reason he gave for leaving in that it was personal and just wanted some time for himself. Takes a lot to give up a job with no real plan for a job after and try to figure out your life. That Dulce Sloan segment was cool.

Hopefully he'll put out more stand-up content.

He's worth 100m.

That level of wealth is impossible to lose if managed properly.

His next few generations are set.

Jon said the same thing when he was leaving. I dont think we fully appreciate just how much a show like that takes from you in terms of commitment. Same with shows like SNL and other Late Night series.

But i feel like Letterman and other Alums who trail-blazed..they will come back on their own terms. Take some time..recoup. rebuild. bull some smallies.

When Jon left people were saying there was no one that could fill his shoes.
Trevor did that and a whole lot more!
Not sure anyone can fill that role now.

The network has Chelsea Handler, Kal Penn, Al Franken, Sarah Silverman and Leslie Jones among those who have been lined up.
In the meantime, until a permanent host is found others who will be filling will also include Wanda Sykes, D.L. Hughley, John Leguizamo, Marlon Wayans and Hasan Minhaj.

To me none of those really standing out.
But a few online polls have Hasan Minhaj in the public opinion lead.

Fan of Roy, but hoping for Ronne to become the host.
That persona could just be what's needed.

Trevor was cool but ever since John Oliver started Last Week Tonight I've enjoyed it more.

They are not really the same though.

One is aired five times a week, the other is once a week.

Content wise LWT takes a a deep dive into one topic and has no guests or other "correspondents"

They can both be enjoyed for what they are.

Noah seemingly became the only late night host willing to make jokes against Biden and for that he gets a Bligh above the other regime night hosts

Good.

Never liked him. Jon was neutral.

It is the role of the jester to speak truth to power.

Hasan's lsst stand up special was based around that theme.

Honestly of all the names previously mentioned Hasan is the best one former alum and has experience with the overall format. Jordan Klepper in the interim could be a good idea.

The other late night host personally I watch them because I just want easy jokes to laugh at nothing too heavy at night.

This is why I like Jimmy the jokes are simple but that's okay it's just an easy watch.

Seth Meyers is pretty good his political stuff I mostly watch that on YouTube though a bit heavy same with Colbert.

Jon was the OG.

He actually changed the late night space making deep political and social commentary a mainstay of the comedy scene on television.

Before that there wasn't anything like that publicly only Carlin and the comics who would do it on their HBO specials, maybe Bill Maher.....

Letterman and Leno had different styles of comedy as did Conan but were still not very political.
