Tata Group Chief Ratan Tata told shareholders that the launch of the car would create a new paradigm in low-cost personal transport, carve out a new market segment and reach a broader base of the pyramid.

actually its really a suzuki and the 800 is a 3-cylinder unit while the alto (both sold in trinidad back in 96-00) has a 1000cc 4-cylinder unit. They are very fuel efficient cars but the new economy king in trini is the Chevrolet Spark.....which infact is a Daewoo.

Ah friend of mine had one of these Maruti 800....one day I saw her o the side of the road...car shutdown...went to take a look....she asked what was the problem...I said big problem....engine missing a cylinder
No end of problems with those cars even though they are re-badged Suzukis.

^^^ march engine can fit (the 998cc march engine) has been done many times. As for reliability the car is not bad we had one for a few years and brought genuine cradles etc. direct from India. Not ours alone but a couple other Maruti 800 owners never had problems different much from other brands. 3 Cylinder very efficient on gas but if engine ever damaged getting another was trouble that's why the MA10 engine was used in some.... MA10 w/gearbox is a monster.
These are really economy cars and much cannot be expected from them though.
