Naw.. from what I'm seeing in the document its either Fixed or Flexible service.
Whether the vehicle qualifies for either one is determined at factory, e.g. Fixed service is required for all 2012 models with PR numbers QG0, QG2, QG3, 2013 models : QI1, QI2, QI3, QI4, QI7

Then according to the PR number, there's another table:

QG0/QG2/QG3 or QG1 vehicles coded to non-flexible interval
Oil change service:
every 15,000 km or 1 year

QI1 Oil change service (fixed): every 5,000 km or 1 year
QI2 Oil change service (fixed): every 7,500 km or 1 year
QI3 Oil change service (fixed): every 10,000 km or 1 year
QI4 Oil change service (fixed): every 15,000 km or 1 year

QI1, QI2, QI3, QI4, QI7
Interval service (fixed): every 30,000 km or 2 years

QI1, QI2, QI3, QI4, QI6, QI7
Inspection service:
after 3 years or max 60,000 km, then every 2 years or 60,000 km

So w.r.t oil, 15,000km is actually correct for fixed interval for my PR number. I'm guessing all the vehicles shipped here would have been for fixed service.

Flexible service interval display (only vehicles with a flexible service)
Calculation of service intervals:
♦ The service intervals on vehicles with a flexible service is calculated. Input values such as, distance travelled, fuel con‐ sumption, oil temperature and loading on diesel particulate filter are evaluated by the control unit.
♦ The result of the evaluation is a measure of the deterioration of the oil due to thermal load.
♦ Oil deterioration is the decisive factor in determining the dis‐ tance that can still be driven before the next service.

Is the PR number in the spec sheet pdf from erwin? Or somewhere easy to find on the car?

Yea its the same 5w40, I find my engine burns off it a lot so prob every 3500km I literally top off a quart.
And good info there but here do u find the PR number?

Your manual may say how much oil burned per km is acceptable. A quart every 3500 km sounds high to me but I can't remember what vw considers as "normal".

Sorry.. should have posted this earlier. It's on the sticker on the right of the spare wheel recess. You'll see the VIN, engine code and then a bunch of PR numbers. Just look for the "Q" number.
Bunny I'm not sure if it's the same for the Jetta.

I know it's normal for the engine to consume some, but I find 1 qt every 3500 km sounds like a lot. Thats basically 20% of your oil  ....... meaning that you have to add 3 quarts between your oil changes?!

Yeah I think we had discussed this once and you said they may have adjusted service intervals for local conditions.
My position was that they were doing it as more frequent services would have been more profitable for them, but you said you were sticking to BA's service intervals

lol@ harshness of "no possibility of activating service interval prolongation"

2012 QG0, QG2, QG3 Fixed service.Oil change service
According to service interval display every 15,000 km / 1 year: whichever occurs first.. from page 17 https://www.dropbox.com/s/blrkdnpqhi7go ... riants.pdf

I remember the discussion but at the time I didn't understand the PR codes. Local conditions was in comparison to posts I saw abroad where they changed oil once a year re: us, Australia. That was without looking at PR codes.

Usually in the documentation they state exceptions to the intervals and they do it by country too. Will have to research some more now to see what is really so special about here when the PR code says otherwise. For example diesels with high sulphur they recommend 7500 km oil change intervals as an exception so I'm surprised a similar exception is not listed in the documentation for gasoline if needed seeing that they like to account for all scenarios.

In fact it makes sense that BA tells jb he can go for longer intervals because it probably lines up with a PR code in the first place!

Both my vehicles called for fixed service (15000 km) as per sticker, in trunk. I use 5W40 and no burn off in either vehicles. 5W40 Pentosin always. That being said I do short runs, I change at 10K or 6mths, which ever comes first. AFAIK 5W40 was specified for arduous conditions.
VW claims burn off is possible, not sure how much.

Well I think I may have had a slight oil leak. Dole spotted it last time I changed out my control arms. If anything I'll have to get the drain plug replaced

Had my drain plug replaced recently. It was determined when I saw drops of oil in my garage. Apparently it could not properly tighten.

It makes sense, but what doesn't make sense to me is why BA's service schedule is set up at 5000 miles/8000km intervals, and they've never told me otherwise.

And yeah the PR codes seem to be done by country/region (I think both ours were for the "National Sales Program Barbados". Any idea if Barbados' fuel quality differs much from ours?

Sidenote: At BA, VW services are at every 8000km and the customer pays. At Ansa (for Honda) where services are free for the first few years, intervals are 15,000km. Hmm..

Come on guys its simple sense. It BA way of making extra cash. I straight up told them I'm not putting up with any of that service bull crap when my last van was running a 10-15k service with all the bad diesel we have here. My car straight up has a 15,000km service on the dash. Y should I take it in before? U have to be firm with them otherwise they just out to take your money

My Q5 is 5000km first service, then 10000km there after.

Never thought about asking to change it but the dash does say 15,000km for next service.

I hear there's a man in there named Raj (no lie) who might be better suited to fixing BMX bicycles
