The manual said Castrol, I switched Royal Purple after one Castrol run. If not RP I'd probably go Pentosin from ERM...

Because the transmission so "funny", the only reason I went with that oil. If I still have this car another 60K km, I will not use that brand of oil again!

Well, you actually blessed. Even since VW / Audi started using Japanese 6 speed automatic transmissions, they have begun to standardize the oil. JW3309 I believe used in many Toyota, volvo and VW models.

is people with DSG and ZF's have to worry about quality of oil.

My Yeti is a 6 spd DSG, so I need to be wary still. Next 4-5 I will see if good alternatives within specs will be available.

Well, from what i have read, there are no alternatives to DSG. Now Ravenol makes a DSG oil, but it is synthetic. I am sure you have read that synthetic DSG oil destroys mechatronics operating in hot weather. So, stick to the Original VW mineral oil.

I think that applies to the DQ200 DSG 7Spd (dry) not the DQ250 6Spd (wet).

Somehow just can't bring myself to believe that amsoil is the Lord of Oil. I think it is lot of marketing hype. Always talking about being the first in synthetics... in 1950. Idk. We have any oil engineers in the house?

lol. I'm not sure about hype as well but I have used it in a few vehicles we owned (Mitsubishi, Toyota) and have not noticed anything odd.

I recently checked my oil level after 5k (miles) and noticed a little burn off but its expected with my engine. The oil also looked brownish so it does indeed have some more time in there. Not bad.
