Opinions/criticism needed:

After Underwashing my B6 Passat, do I spray with:

1) Shock Oil (is it really available)
2) Transmission oil
3) WD 40

just curious... why you would want to spray with any of those things?

Usual lubrication "maintenance", if it helps in any way.

One tuner said nothing below, seems the thinking is these things do worse than good.

i've just never really heard of it being done.

isn't the underside of the b6 passat covered by a large plastic shield?

Exactly, that's why I said nothing lol. Plus you don't need to spray anything underneath even if it didn't have a shield. WD40 can work if you insist, just to displace any moisture.

ok kids............history lesson time:
Why do service people at gas stations etc recommend spraying under your car with shock-oil?
In the old days, things like leaf springs, king pins, etc would start squeaking over time. The easy fix was to spray the entire underside of your car with oil, to 'lubricate' and stop all the noise
Now, under your car, you have lots of bushes and seals made up of rubber. Petroleum is the natural enemy of rubber. Coating that stuff with oil can cause seals and bushes tp perish over time. Not to mention coating your car with oil will cause dust and debris to get trapped and make a nice mucky coating which will also trap moisture, making things worse.
Finally, look under your car. Typically only your wheel-wells get dirty. Under your car typically remains clean

So u saying that under wash is unnecessary and just washing the wheel wells is good enough then?

sounds like spraying under the car is unnecessary.

i suppose an occasional debridement of the underside of the car can't hurt.

Thanks MG man for that point of view. I feel better that I did not put my car on a ramp and potentially could have done worse. I will continue with water only.

pretty much.............take a look under your car and see..........a good spray with a hose is all you need, unless your cars are like mine, and came with the factory-installed chassis lubrication system
