Wow! man living the dream! 1.5 or 2.0?

Americans like the 2.0 but everyone else says the 1.5 is more fun as you have to work the gears more to get the power out of it.

1.5

There is a revised 2.0 though from 2019 model year. That one is the one to get. Revs like the 1.5 but with more power.

Goodday All, we have a 2009 Jetta 1.4 TSI, Mechatronic Unit Failed......again!!!
it was changed by BA already within the warranty period

They are quoting 22k to repair the vehicle, Are there any other options or will I just have to face BA with this bill??

Has anyone changed this outside of BA and how much difference would it cost??

thanks in advance for y'all response

Interestingly, i asked the mechanic that was referred by Kinday above, if these was anything that could be done by means of preventative maintenance to prevent the MU from failing. He said that there is nothing that could be done besides changing driving habits, eg. if you are accustomed to driving in stop an go traffic for extended periods, this would put more strain in the MU. I guess this tranny just wants to be set free ie. prefers highway driving and he estimated an avg lifetime of the MU to be 3 to 5 years.
This seems to be true in our case since this is the second one we have to change in the almost 10yrs that we have had this jetta.

Since being informed of the same I've changed my driving habits as well as tend to stick to hours more consistent with less traffic. I've noticed a tendency for increased pull off shudder in heavy traffic combined with daytime humidity, which is completely none existent in highway cruising with periodic stops during the similar hours. GPS navigation has also become my best vehicular friend.

I can confirm this myself, I hardly meet traffic based on where I live and my MU is going strong 4 1/2 years and counting, these gearboxes HATE traffic and being in it frequently shortens the life of your unit significantly

Imagine you have to stop driving to save the car from mechanical failure, seems kinda counter intuitive if you ask me

Driving habits make no difference to the dq200 mechatronic. They fail randomly. Only thing different if your mech hasn’t failed is if it’s a newer version. Anecdotal stories don’t prove anything with respect to these.

I have it since 7 years and counting...and I only do highway with no or less traffic more than 75 percent of the time. I go at times where the ease up is. I read that in stop and go traffic in cars generally increases wear and tear.. I not sure about random failures tho.

If you got part numbers, check out shopdap.com for an original part

Massy was charging $5000 and out of stock. DAP had it for $252 USD. Well for the Passat anyway

I went aftermarket route. Bought one off ebay for about US $250 at the time when I saw that VW hadn’t changed the part number for years and the OEM pimp was 9k at Massy. If the OEM part number changed from the last letter J/JX I would try the oem one again if I still had the jetta.
