What causes LOW idle on VWcold start?(READ-partially solved

Postby badghost » May 9th, 2011, 3:17 pm

What are the probable causes of a LOW idle on a cold start for a VW golf\bora?

Any info would be greatly appreciated....

Like I said in a message I sent to you awhile back

"1.6? Well I could give you quite a number of probable causes ranging from coils/plugs/MAF however the best way to troubleshoot such a problem is to get it scanned for any fault codes, only then would you be able to accurately determine the cause without changing random parts."

x2 Had a similar prob - changed all my coil packs, prob was gone. Scanning best way to know for sure as well any other fault codes would show up.

yes its a 1.6 AEH engine...my inbox was filled so i gess i dint get you msg Trinivdub....

i had it scanned but noting realy came up that would cause it....

The codes i got were :ECU,LAMBDA CONTROL,POWER TRAIN DATA BUS, FUEL GAUGE SENSOR, SUPPLY VOLTAGE.

who did the repair for the coils Mazdout>?

-Have you had problems with the fuel sensor and lambda (oxygen sensor)..??

These were the codes:
01177 ECU
00537 LAMBDA CONTROL
01312 POWER TRAIN DATA BUS
01299 DIAGNOSTIC INTERFACE FOR DATA BUS
00771 FUEL GAUGE SENSOR,
00532 SUPPLY VOLTAGE
01013 a/C CONTROL SIGNAL

My car was making a 'Rackling' noise-upon having it checked, it was found that the exhaust manifold gasket was leaking....
I got the Gasket changed by a muffler repair shop in south, they did a really EXCEPTIONAL job for a GR8 PRice!....(some of the bolts were broken and they were able to unscrew it using "common sense")....

AS compared to this Barry's Garage just off chase village flyover...these people were ridiculous-and money consuming!! i carried in the car for a half day repair 1st-b4 going to the other 1 in south-to my utter regret because .....wen they started the repair and realized the bolts were broken- said they would need to open the ENGINE BLOck, carry it to a machine shop and let them take it out change head gasket etc-- and costing over $2000 pluss and days in repairs!!....
so i was left with the option 2 cancel the repair and still pay $352 for Doing NOTHING...whichh i smartly did...

Anyways, the low idling was 'partially' solved as I regained lost power due to this leaking gasket...I still have a temporary low idle but less than before tho...

DOES ANY OF THE CODES SUGGEST SUCH?
Have u gotten these codes before?

Related Codes to idle issues: - 00537 looks like the main cause and should be checked further.

00537- Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to O2 Sensor(s) faulty, Lambda Control/Sensor faulty, Injector(s) faulty/blocked, Fuel Pressure Regulator faulty, Fuel Pump faulty.

01312 - Malfunction Indicator Light ON, Databus Wiring and/or Connector(s) faulty

00771 - Wiring between Fuel Level Sensor (G) and Instrument Cluster: Open or Short Circuit

00532 - Supply Voltage too low, not very important as this would pop up if the battery was removed. Or if the battery is weak.

I would suggest clearing the fault codes and running the vehicle, rescanning to see if any come back.
If you have leak in the exhaust, pre cat, this would register on the HEGO senser as a "low voltage condition < 0.45 V the ECU to compensate the injection by adding moire fuel. A good scanner such as VAGCOM will display this as a lambda correction of up to a clip +25%. Not good as it should be +/- 5% max.
The other faults, other than lambda control are related to having a battery a voltage than 10Volts and should clear after a reset.

ok Thanks Tuners...

I would get the car rescan &reset-2clear the trouble codes and see the results....The 00537 especially!
The scanner i used was CARMAN SCAN,nextech...
(Nice info-) it makes total sense that the car would consume more gas..im hoping the O2 sensor wouldn't have to b changed..

well i did change the battery a couple months ago, but i think the current wire from the battery to the alternator needed to be changed because it was not providing the correct voltage.
..As for the 'Malfunction Indicator Light ON'- what is this exactly? - i do have a problem because th las time i changed the alternator, the time and km counter would reset every time i start the car. Also when i switch the cd Deck , the light on the number plate would come on also the a\c switch and other would light up without the turning on the park/head lights...the last time i scanned the problem remained....any hints?

I Really want to know about the 01013 - A/C Load Signal....

For injector cleaning do u recommend using a product or manual labor?
