The 1.4 still seems more economical than the 1.8 using premium though. VWExec was saying 265 to fill up.. which might translate to about $380 a tank (at least). jah

To make up for lack of displacement the 1.4 TSI uses a supercharger for improved power and response at low RPMs while the Turbo does the same at high RPMs. The 1.8 TSI uses one Turbo only since it has enough displacement to nullify the need for a supercharger.

I understand the charger differences which allows for same HP output from two different displacement engines.
But, assuming the CR's are the same, what is the local Dealer's reasoning then, for separating 1.8T Passat (Super) and 1.4TSI Jetta (Premium) from a fueling point of view?
Because an ECU can dial back ignition timing to compensate for lower RON fuel doesn't mean it's something you should do continuously. I'll check the manual later.

also.... since BA is now saying it's ok to use super in the 1.8tsi, does this mean they'll cover any damage to the engine possibly caused by using a lower than recommended fuel grade?

Any change in DSG rattles?

Now you know why I drive with the radio off and windows down alot.
The 1.8T in the Passat doesn't sound good?
