Hey guys,

Im looking to purchase a suzuki jimmy by the ending of next month or sooner off.
I decided to start this group to share experiences, knowledge and your opinions on this great 4X4 vehicle.

Few questions to start off with:

1500cc, 660cc turbo or 1300cc: which is best for a everyday use on the road and occasional off roading in terms of parts power and speed etc...

I saw 1 or 2 good deals on trini cars for 47-50k with 1300cc or 1500cc engine body needs a lil work
and theres also a top of then line condition body and interior for 50k but the engine is 660cc turbo

whats your opinions on thins

They don't come with 1500cc engines, only 1300cc and 660.

In my opinion you spending 50k on a 20+ yr old vehicle. Save a little more and buy a new model jimny. Just as capable in stock form.

660 parts are difficult to come by and expensive. The 660 runs decent, but revs high on the highway and gets annoying, whilst putting more wear on your motor.

1300 parts are easier to get, while still a bit expensive (as are all suzuki parts). A properly maintained jimny won't need much replacement parts.

The new jimny with the m13a dohc, has more power and 'speed' than the older jimnys.

1600cc engine mikki tompson rims,,mud terrin tires ac (no power steering ) vehicle in top condition
this should generally be better than the 660cc turbo by far ,,parts easy and price range I'm not sure anyone knows?

sounds good. that will be the G16 vitara engine. is it carb or fuel injected?

That looks like an early g16A 8valve carburetted. Parts are available, but as with all suzuki parts in my experience, you have to look and will be a little costly. Those engines are very strong and with proper maintainence will last with no issues. That engine in a light jimny/samurai would be lots of fun.

Let me jump in here, I have the 16 valve version to the picture. As Aidan said (and he knows his stuff) - these engines are true power/work horses. My engine is in a Suzuki Samurai and the power to weight ratio is simply amazing. I've dropped my jeep to the chassis in mud and it simply crawled out.

Parts wise - many are available on eBay, lowrange and other Suzuki off roading websites although the Americans call it - 4 wheeling. This is definitely the way to go !!!

, I recognize that engine bay. @aidan that's the G13BA 8-valve EPI, that was a engine/harness swap from a foreign used Jimny 1300 Sierra. Local samurais came carbureted.

As V2NR 3.0 said, you can get parts for both G13BA 8-valve carb & EFI, as well as G16A/B 16-valve EFI from the US from rockauto, ebay, lowrange offroad, etc.

The G16A 16-valve (5-pin MAF) is a JDM engine, and not available in the US.
Then there's the G16B* 16-valve (3-pin hotwire MAF) which was in the USDM Sidekick/Geo Tracker as well as 95*-98 JDM Escudo.
There's also the G16B 16-valve (coil-on-plug ignition) which came in the Grand Vitaras. (Gen2).

Also, a G16A 8-valve EPI which looks similar to the G13BA 8-valve EPI, except the intake pipe sits on top of the rocker cover. These came in the USDM Sidekick/Tracker, as well as UK Vitaras(Gen1) and I think in the early year Escudos(Gen1).

Imo, best engine for the Samurai/Jimny is the G16A/B 16-valve (5pin or 3pin MAF) coupled with TrailTough/Petroworks/Calmini engine adapter plate kit.

With 1.6 16-valve, you have lots of power to turn big tires, even if you change your diff gearing to suit.

I've been seeing a lot of jimny/samurai owners moving away from the 16valve and into the M13a (spelling correction may be needed) - the engine that comes in the new Suzuki Swift.

It seems that parts are easier to get for this engine than the ones mentioned above - how true ? - well I haven't had the time to go scouting around the bamboo as yet.

you can get almost ANY and do mean ANY part for the old model jimny/sammy online... At really good prices too.. Even OEM Suzuki parts... I got OEM front bearing hubs (brand new) for 50US for one verses 1500TT at lifestyle... OEM engine mounts at 20US for the pair verses 300TT for one..

The g13 engine is pretty much the simplest engine to maintain and its very reliable.. There are complete rebuild kits available online for this engine as well as the g16...

You can get 660 engine parts online as well.. You just have to be creative with your searching...

Go on line and purchase it there. Even if you do find it locally, they will lick you up with prices.
