Ignis Sport + M18A

Postby ignis » June 29th, 2013, 12:42 pm

Been working on this for my daily driver with great results. Installed M18A with vvt in place of the M15A motor. The M18A compression ratio is lower than the original engine and the car runs fine on super. Used the original harness and ECU and the car runs a little leaner at part throttle but fine when the vvt kicks in. The installation is very straight forward and all gearbox and engine mounts are standard. The engine is an exact replacement for the M15A and I expect it could replace the M13A and M16A in the swift and swift sport as well. This might be a good option because of the unavailability of cheap power upgrades for the M series motors.

Wow... Any pics of install? Also what is the m18a compression? How is the space with regards to force induction on the new setup?

9.6 to 1.
Ideal for a turbo project. I did read that the M18A rods were not as strong as the others in the M range. But the rods are the same as the M16A swift sport rods which are easily found for turbo applications. If the boost is kept low they might work.
Also the fan is between the exhaust manifold and the condenser so it can be removed and a replacement push type fan could be placed in-front the condensor, creating more space for your turbo.

Very nice. Where did you get the M18 from?
Did you use the M18 injectors?

Devi did the gearbox fit?

Big Z yes I used the M18A injectors. Tried larger injectors but it ran rich and the original ECU was out of range and not able to reduce the fuel.

You can raise the fuel pressure to compensate, if its running too lean.
