Suzuki Swift or SX4

Postby Kongorealm » March 2nd, 2011, 10:07 am

My wife is looking at purchasing a brand new vehicle. She likes the swift sport and the SX4 hatch. I am essentially looking for reviews from personal experience and knowledge about these two cars; good buy or does it have better vehicles on the market for the same price range?

Particulars such as:
- Company Services and Support
- Vehicle Reliability
- Any Known Issues or Downfalls
- Parts i.e. Availability and Price (Reasonable or Expensive)
- Any other relevant information

Any info would be appreciated.

However, it would be appreciated if you can provide some details regarding the vehicles as mentioned above or any alternatives.

Thanks in advance.

I would actually rate the quality of Suzuki to be superior to Nissan (Tiida, Y12) at this time.
You do get a few rattles here and there, but everything works how it should. No issues to change the spark plugs (~3 hour job with the Tiida).

People have mixed results with the stealership.... Some have had perfect feedback, some like myself have had multiple issues with their servicing.

Parts, youre looking strictly at the stealership, but new vehicles will last for 5 years or more without major issues.

Personally, I find the SX4 ugly, but give me one and I will happily drive it around.

Well, I don't think the Swift Sport is avail. new at LMotors anymore...until the new SSport is launched.

You'd need to ascertain WHAT you want from your new car exactly?

Comfort?

Lots of space?

Well then IMHO, the Swift Sport (even if you got, say, a RORO or used one) doesn't really fit that bill too well. It has stiffer suspension than the avg car (due to its sporting intentions) and isnt' the most spacious in rear seating.

Of all the new cars I've driven/sat in/test driven etc....the Tiida and the Sylphy take teh cake when it comes to seating comfort...in MY opinion. The seats are some of the best in the compact class....dare I say ANYWHERE. And the space is ridiculous inside...I still can't fathom how I (@ 6' 1") can fit behind my father (6' ) in the driver's seat...and have room to stretch my legs out.

Amazing.

If you're looking for something zippy, with some measure of performance and a "sporty" feel being the prime objectives - then teh Sport makes a good choice IMHO.

She wants a compact car but at the same time a "sporty" looking vehicle with performance in mind.

Her initial view on the Tida was not positive but I as of now, her mind has changed a bit...

Honestly, my advice to her was to get a car that a reasonable with respect to cost of parts and maintenance and reliable since she does not have much experience with cars.

The swift sport looks good for her due to the size but I have heard on many occasions parts are not cheap or reasonable and most parts you have to get by the Dealer (as Big Z stated clearly).

Currently online looking at reviews...

She prefers to purchase a new vehicle instead of used or RORO, that's just her preference.

she checked with Suzuki, the SX-4 really nice and they say there are going to replace the swift in the future with another vehicle...
the swift nice too...if it was up to me I would of loved an ignis sport but the car is for her...lol

Hey man, I'd say go with an SX4. My mom recently bought a SX4 base sedan, and it's great for the price, there is nothing in it's price range that compares to it, plus you get suzuki reliability. From experience, I have never ever been let down by a zuki.

Anyway, the SX4 sedan has lots of space, and the boot is huge. It performs quite well, motor has a lot of torque and pulls well with 5 people and AC. Interior is nice and very comfortable. Back seats 3 adults comfortably, with a lot of leg room. The gauge cluster is also cool looking lol. Anyway, the car is easy to drive, suspension is a bit stiff, but still very comfortable. Best of all, it's very very very good on fuel. $80 super does almost 550km with AC and traffic.
If you have any specific questions on the SX4 sedan, feel free to ask.

I believe they are going for $135k for the base model right now. Not bad, since there is probably nothing equivalent to compare this to in this price range.

^ now that's a nice review man...thanks

After looking at all of her options, she decided to go with the SX4 hatchback crossover...it will suit her best due to the size of the vehicle. So far, I like the reliability and gas economy that I'm hearing and reading about in reviews.
We also looked at the 206 but N&M stop bringing them in and not to sure about the future of Peugeot as of now. The Fiat Punto is a class on its own (miles ahead of the others IMO) and only 125k's brand new; only if there were more well established in this country we wold of purchased this car.

Italian and French cars are generally not known for build quality. Good job avoiding them.
You will enjoy the SX4!

But the SX4 and Fiat Sedici is the exact same car eh. The Sx4/sedici was co-developed by fiat and suzuki.

Hey guys one more question:

My wife can't decide on a colour, What colour do you think will be the best looking?...Here are the choices:

- Snow White Pearl (looks really good as it really highlights all the black trim or should I say it the other way around)
- Mineral Grey Metallic (looks good, professional looking but the black trim kinda hides due to the shade of grey)
- Sunlight Copper Metallic 2 (nice bright orange colour)

Really can't decide...lol

What is your opinion...which one do you like...

Hey man, we took the Snow White pearl, it looks real good, especially at night, it looks like a metallic silver, and as always, white so easy to clean.

I love the FIAT and i have no problem buying it..I am not concerned about resale value...I am concerned that when i park up my car:
1. Nobody looking to steal it.
2. Nobody jackin' me for it.

The peace of mind in THIS trinidad that we now live in is priceless cause man hah to be comin out dey house wondering if dey car still dey after limin etc.

Sterling services what they sell...and they keep their brands..(unlike Neal and Massy)

is the SX4 sedan cheaper than the hatchback?

Google the following words "fiat reliability".
Should fall in the same category as "renault reliability"

Then make your choice.

Basic sedan i think is 145,000
sport model sedan is 157,000
2wd Hatchback is 150,000
AWD Hatchback Crossover is 163,650

I should be getting my Crossover by friday from lifestyle.

I personally like the Suzuki cars because it has a Timing Chain which means no changing at 100000km and it shouldn't burst on you. vehicle seems more durable and might last longer. Hence i bought one

Firstly I doubt there are any more swift sports in the yard for purchase. DON'T buy no french or european cars in trini. They too damn expensive to maintain and very low resale value. The mechanics don't know how to fix them properly!look at the renaults and the others.
Swift sports are hard to come by second hand so there must be a good reason why men not willing to part with them.performance and handling is what makes them fun to drive. My personal experience when I test drove was that I didnt want to buy one. I guess i was comparing my rb20turbo nissan to a sport for the feel. I eventually went ahead the ss when I got that special colour purely by luck! Gas consumption is a beyotch for me because i drive hard ALL the time!

The sx4 crossover I would recommend power and handling being a 4wd!colour the pearl white or the metallic grey!dont buy no black and dont let anyone chain u up to buff it. just wax it down with carnauba wax once a month to maintain the glass effect!

My gf has had her SX4 Hatch for almost 3 years now and no problems so reliability is not an issue. Your wife appears settled on it but she should test drive a Fit Sport. I test drove one and IMO these look very sporty especially in red or black and they drive amazing....great handling and more comfortable than the SX4 which I find is a bit harsh. Interior room is amazing and very flexible seating options similar to the SX4.

Honda parts can be bought from many places and lots of ppl out there to service them. Just something you may want to consider

chris1388, roro, i know someone who bought in one but it cost above 120k, and it was a 2010 model. Looks exactly like this

Image

It's pretty quick and good on gas, and a lot of fun to drive, but it feels 'soft' for some reason, like in case of an accident. I prefer the feel of a suzuki.

On another note, in the area of hot hatches i like the Toyota Vitz RS and Mitsubishi Ralliart Colt.
