Firstly, who do you think you should listen to the, the ppl that make the car, or the man that is getting paid to fix it when things go wrong.

Secondly, regardless of how economical you drive so long as its over short distances and stuck in traffic, your average will suck, i think the trick is getting a tank of gas to last an acceptable length of time, example a week

also its a good idea to reset the km/L and trip meter on every tank, that way driving from the previous tank doesn't affect the new tank average

My advice use premium if you want the engine to last! It clearly States 95 Ron on the gas tank lid. Your dad and mechanic are very wrong. This is not a nissan, honda or toyota and you would have a hard time finding an engine if urs get damaged and cant find one in the bamboo. These engines are very sensitive so listen to the people who have owned and still owned Sss.
The only way to use super safely is with an aftermarket engine management system. Your engine would ping like crazy running super.

Re: High Octane Fuel Necessary or Beneficial for Swift Sport
by Evoman » Wed Aug 22, 2012 9:30 am

Hi

I was pondering the same question a while back and heard various responses one of which alluded to any such gains in power being negligible in a 'relatively' low horsepower car. However, having rented one of the Swift Sports at Rent4Ring (and these guys know their stuff when it comes to these little firecrackers), they know from the data downloads and performance mapping, the SSS will retard the ignition with regular unleaded to the point where bhp will drop to approx. 105bhp versus the 125bhp with higher RON fuel (98/99).

This was interesting to hear because as much as you hear people say it's only psychological that you get more performance, particularly from a small engined car, I certainly felt a difference with higher octane fuel, a surprising difference at that. Having been told by the guys at Rent4Ring who are a brilliant outfit for Nordscheilfe track prepared cars, I now know there is truth in the improved performance of the SSS on higher RON fuel.

That said, our SSS does'nt get treated to the expensive stuff all the time. If you are tootling along on a steady commute or shopping runs without extending the legs so to speak, no issue with standard RON fuel being in there. This again was words from the Retn4Ring guys. However, if you are letting the engine 'sing' in the upper echelons, get that high RON fuel in there and feel the difference!

Cheers
Evoman

I use Redline gas clean thingy......... works good.... not to sure about that octane thingy.....

Note: The redline gives you better performance and gas mileage.... well that what I noticed.... and according to my boss... I have OCD..... so I may be right lol

excellent post trini240Z, but i wish they had stated what RON the "standard RON fuel" that they mention. Cause, our premium is at best 95RON or at least that is what NP sells to the gas stations (unipet included), which may or may not be the same as the standard mentioned in your post. not to mention the fairly well known fact that some gas stations mix premium with super and sell it to you as premium to increase their profits.

further i think we can all attest to the fact that the swift and swift sport are too often too much fun to drive conservatively hence its a good idea to put the best fuel you can in the tank to get the output, and enjoy the ride even more.

having said all of that there are alternative to premium that not suppose to cause damage to the car once done properly, but none of them bare the convenience of just using pump gas.

when my light comes on i drive for about 20kms and then full up and $210 is the magic number. I have been using liquid moly engine oil treatment and it works well. Engine feels lighter and smoother and the pinging is barely noticeable except when u wanna push hard off the line

Re: My Suzuki Swift Sport (Updates: Clutch is burning)

Postby trini240z » May 26th, 2013, 2:34 pm

drove the car around on saturday, went up and down the highway. drove around south in the night, then went to drop a friend home. when i got by him and was making a 3 point turn i noticed the car was vibrating slightly and the clutch was feeling different. while stationary, with the clutch depressed, i sometimes couldnot choose any gears no matter how hard i tried, then it would go into gear, but the car would vibrate.

then i noticed smoke from under the hood. engine temp was perfect, so switched off and was smelling the clutch burning very very badly. i didnt drive hard at all for the night, no launches or riding the clutch.

left the car there for the night. this morning i checked the engine oil and it was lower than after the service, but still above minimum. still smelling clutch smell, but not as strong. the clutch pedal is very heavy, but the gears are selecting and the car doesnot vibrate. havent driven the car yet, going to wreck it to the mechanic on monday.

any ideas, or thoughts as to this scenario. could it be the clutch cable ( if its not hydraulic) not disengaging the clutch enough and causing friction and burning. how long does a clutch last? i have no idea if its stock or has been changed.

i have never actually launched the car. only normal driving so far. a friends mechanic took a look today and he said the actuator that disengages the clutch is barely moving, so when depressed, the pedal just burns the clutch. i think its some problem between the pedal and actuator that is causing the problems. taking it to the mechanic tomorrow and preparing myself for the bill. :(

went to mechanic today: he says its most likely the clutch release bearing. its making quite a loud squeal now when the clutch is pressed. went by lifestyle to get a quote for the clutch disk, pressure plate and bearing. NO clutch disks in stock Nationwide. and it will take 3 WEEKS to ship from Japan. if they can find one in Barbados it will be MORE expensive.
i dont know if it needs a new clutch, but im guessing it might, so i dont know how long the car will be down for????? the bearing is only $430 thank god. will keep updating

Your mechanic obviously does not know much about the car or engine so you need to be cautious when he advises you. The car cannot use super gasoline, with a compression ratio of 11:1 on the engine suzuki recommends using 98 octane for best performance and engine life. The best we get here is 95 octane which is premium gasoline.....the ECU in the car will pull timing and let the car run quite happily and without detriment to the engine on this so using premium you are already not giving the car its optimum fuel. Using super is not advised at ALL, from the sounds of it the car must have been getting super for some time now....hopefully the engine is not damaged.

As for your clutch no certain way to tell until u drop the gearbox.

dropped the gearbox, the clutch release bearing was fried. scorched the pressure plate as well. purchased these from suzuki. but the clutch still has some life, the dilemma now is:

put back in the old clutch with about a years life, then pay the labour to replace it a year down the road.

or search for a new one now and save the money, but risk having the car down till next week sometime due to the long weekend.

well the labour cost alone is enough to make me consider waiting a few more days. if i dont find a clutch disk by tomorow i will be using the old one.

the only clutches i found we 300 dollar ones that my mechanic said he wont install due to the quality. i agree and we are putting back in the stock one. it has life on it and i will make it last as long as i can.

either i will buy one from the firm when they get, or search online for an exedy or other brand. i can either ship it, or bring it with me when i go on vacation over August vacation. i will keep it until this cluch disk is ready to change.
