WTK: 2012 Ford Ranger Temp guage going up

Postby RyanM84 » March 1st, 2022, 10:47 pm

Hi all, my clutch fan had some issues spinning so i changed it. However when i press on the gas the temp guage goes up and when i take my foot off the gas the temp goes back to half immediately. At idle speed the guage remains at half
Any idea what could be wrong ?

Was the replacement fan new or used? It may need the silicone fluid to lock it up to keep up with the engine.

The engine operating temperature cannot exhibit wide fluctuations in the space of a few seconds.

If the temperature sender is located in a vapor pocket of the cooling system, the temperature can go up quickly while surrounded by higher temperature vapor and then drop quickly when surrounded by lower temperature fluid.

Check the coolant system and be certain that it doesn't have any air in it.

If the temperature sender fails, you could possibly be reading the changes in vehicle voltage as you rev the engine.

The gauge should move from normal temperature to cold after the engine has been allowed to cool overnight. Check the sensor with an ohm meter. The resistance should be about 50 kΩ. The resistance should be about 2 kΩ at normal operating temperature.

Hi Adnj, yes we bled the system for air, but i am thinking it could be the thermostat

Remove it and boil and see the amount it opens up for a quick answer to if it is good.

Hi Guys, so the issue was the thermostat. Changed it out. The coolant was changed when new fan was installed.

Thanks
