Ford Focus 2011 RCM Module

Postby ShumbaPOS » January 26th, 2017, 6:49 pm

Hi,

My vehicle has the airbag light on (airbags have not deployed) and the Ford dealer said that the light is not coming off due to the Restraint Control Module (RCM) locking up and will need to be replaced to resolve the issue.
I have purchased a functioning used original RCM module (Bosch Model# 4M5T14B056BJ) that was removed from another Ford Focus.
The installation of this replacement module will require programming the RCM to the vehicle VIN.

Does anybody know if the dealer can perform this replacement procedure?
Has anyone come across a similar issue before with the airbag light staying on?
Also, can anyone recommend a mechanic who could do these kinds of repairs?

Many thanks

Unfortunately they did not provide me with a code.
They just told me that it locked up and it needs to be replaced.

We are actually thinking of purchasing the car from a friend. He bought the car 2nd hand with the airbag light on already. The car may have been in small accidents before but the airbags did not deploy.

Are the seatbelt locks the same length?

Have not checked that. Will that be something to look out for?

I never heard that a module locked up. Trying to figure out if there's a collision detection.

I believe there must have been some collision with the previous driver but airbags did not deploy. I assume it must have triggered something on the RCM module hence the airbag light being on.

OK. They probably getting a "no communication" when they scan. I'm not sure if they'll want to flash the used module but they will be able to install.
