jus wanna know. Are the Local MAzda 3 keys electronically coded?

i made a spare key for my wife's car and while it opens the door and turns on the ACC it wont tumble the engine.

Has anyone made a spare key outside of southern sales that works or do i have to go to the company (and face a ridiculous fee)?

Any advice greatly appreciated

yes, the key has a transponder in it... It is possible to purchase a blank key with a transponder online, have it cut locally, and you can program it yourself, providing you have in your presence 2 functional keys. If you don't have 2 functional keys to code the 3rd, you have no choice but to order a new key.

To add to my statement above, if i'm not mistaken.. you can program up to 8 keys for your vehicle, however, the vehicle would only allow up to 3 remotes for key less entry.

If you travel to the United States, you can get your chip key copied at Ace Hardware for around $45 USD. I dunno about the Mazda but on my previous car only the dealer could add a new transponder key to the car, but Ace Hardware is able to copy the transponder ID of your existing key.

hmm... for US $45, you can't go wrong....
It is possible on the Mazda and Ford vehicles that are based on the Passive Anti Theft System (PATS) for the customer to do their own copy... the process varies slightly on different model vehicles however...

anyone that does what exactly? You can purchase the uncut key with a transponder online, have it cut locally, and copied yourself using the procedure referenced in the previous post.

1
First of all this only works with Ford or Mazda cars and trucks. There is a different procedure for other makes and models. You will first need to purchase a transponder chip key. You can either order one off of eBay or you can buy one from the dealership. A local locksmith may also be able to provide you with one. The last resort should be the dealership, they will charge you an arm and a leg.

Next you will need to have the transponder key cut like the original. Ask a local locksmith to do this. Their charges will be minimal. Probably less than $10.

Now its time to program the new key. First you will need both of the programmed keys that came with the vehicle. If you do not have both, you will not be able to program the key yourself. You will need to go to the dealer to have it done. If you have both keys, put one of the already programmed keys into the ignition. Turn the ignition to RUN but do not start the engine. After the security light on the dash goes out, remove the key. Put the next already programmed key into the ignition and turn the key to RUN, but do not start the engine. Wait until the light on the dash goes out. Remove the key.

Take the new key and put it into the ignition. Turn the key to RUN but do not start the vehicle. Wait until the security light goes out on the dash. Then remove the key. The new key should now be programmed
