WTK: Vibration

Postby silas » May 1st, 2009, 7:48 am

Aside from tires, what's the next major cause of side to side vibration on a car?
I get a moderate vibration above 100kph when power is being applied.
However, when I mash the clutch, coasting at 100kph, thew vibration disappears completely until I release the clutch and the engine and gearbox are engaged again.
Some mechanics have insisted that it's a tire problem, other say velocity joints...
Any opinions would be welcome.

Best Regards,
Silas

99.9% percentage sure its a mount, or drivetrain related (axle connections, vel joint etc)... after all, based on what u did by 'coasting', it cannot be tyres or anything suspension related because the car is still moving, and thus the those kinda problems should remain during the coast. So its gotta be tied to the engine and gearbox

Besides the need for speed balancing the most likely cause would be what hong kong phooey, and damieG82, said.

Thanks Hong Kong Phooey & DamieG82, under CAREFUL inspection, I've revealed that it is in fact a mount. Thanks again!

Cheers
Silas
