Can the stock housing of the mazda headlights hold higher wattage headlights? Above 60/55 watts

Yes they can. But you have to upgrade the sockets as they tend to melt. Try to get ceramic ones. I've been running 100watts for 3yrs and have never replaced the sockets.

Have you ever replaced the headlight bulbs ? I think they would be the H4 variety. Heavy duty sockets arent that expensive. Less than $30.00.

seriously?

I currently have H4s int he car, but in my excitedness I didn't read the 55-60 watt label (basically the headlights with a blue hue). Also, do these sockets come witht he wiring harness or are they just sockets alone?

Sockets with wire.

If you are going to run higher wattage lamps then you are going to have to run a custom harness. Any good auto-electrician can make one and install it for you. When I did mine I had to get wire( cant remember the length or guage), two relays ($35.00 ea), relay clips (10 I think), the pair of heavy duty sockets and finally a roll of electrical tape to wrap the harness in. Oh and of course the pair of 100w bulbs. Everything came up to about $300.00 including labour.

I can get the bulbs no worries. My main issue is with the sockets. Once I replace those I have a friend good with electronics who is willing to wire up a relay for me. I will PM you for a location as to where I can obtain the sockets and I'll let u know how the work goes :mrgreen:

You can check Teach in Couva for ceramic sockets.

Pablo the guy I have in mind lives in south and the job will have to be done on a weekend. I will try to organize for you this coming weekend if you're interested in making a trip into the southland. By the way have you considered buying brighter lamps that use stock wattage such as silverstars or maybe even the PIAA lanps that Razor I think has for sale ?

The only thing you may have to change is the sockets. I could be wrong but thats my only my opinion.

Pablo. If you check the PIAA (I got your question answered) thread you would see that you wont have to change your sockets. Since these bulbs carry the stock wattage it wont be necessary. Its literally a plug and play solution to your problem. I also think you should check to see if your headlights are properly focused. That way you will get the maximum benefit from them. If you install them give me some feedback. I am also interested in installing them.
