ABS pump scrap down and rebuild.

Postby nervewrecker » May 14th, 2018, 9:09 pm

Ok, so I had an error with my abs system that was throwing a light (not CEL as I had previously posted, it was the handbrake and ABS light). Bought a used pump and slapped it in. Abs works, error gone but seems a valve had become stuck and no fluid was going to a wheel.
I decided to scrap them down and see if its salvageable.

Finished pump, really did not take pics before.

The pump is comprised of and can be dismantled into three separate parts:

1 - Motor with an eccentric

2 - Block that comprises of valves and a pair of pistons inside that the eccentric move when it rotates

Stems that contain the valves, two valve a wheel

Inputs MC1, MC2
Outputs Front left and front right inputs

Rear Left and Rear right

3 - solenoid assembly that closes the valves next to block

socket that receives the plug for the abs pump

I cant remember offhand the screwdriver tip I used to remove the screws. Its 6 screws, 2 on the motor and 4 on the solenoid assembly. Swapped the block from the original ABS pump unto the motor and solenoid assembly from the used one and didn't have any issues.
Servicing included some cleaning up of the components and spraying through MC1 and MC2 with brake clean to make sure fluid comes through FR and RR and FL and RL respectively (MC1 handles Front right and rear right and vice versa for MC2). Also, a little grease inside where the eccentric moves inside the block.
Used some red silicone around the edges when assembling to make a proper seal to keep water out.
Also hit the old block a 500psi shot of nitrogen to see if it can free up.

Why? Because I am the mad scientist :evilbat:

Hope I inspired someone or helped someone having brake issues.

Nice work, most people just throw faulty parts out and replace.

gents, looking for a non-working abs block for a usdm gda wrx? Just the block? wanna use it in an comming project.

fluid pressured schedule shock with a piston to pressure air for a venturi system for cooling. Pressure relief valve for trigger and safety blow out. Smaller form factor and faster.
