Update Time.

Good News:
Significantly Improved oil pressure throughout the rev range. Before used to sometimes hit 90's only when cold, now its 95+ from about 2000rpm.
Faster Spool up, turbo whine sounds amazing(vf37 with fmic).
Quieter engine @ idle.

Bad News:
Oil pan leak. Didn't let the silicone cure enough as i was anxious to test. Will reseal next week.
Idle oil pressures are the same. 10psi with +/- 2psi fluctuations.

Now i know its def my oil pump. its a 10mm pump that most likely has a worn rotor or loose screws, but on various forums most ppl with high mileage 10mm pumps have an idle of 10psi. I have a 12mm already on the way, which is what it should have had in the beginning.

All should be well after that.

'Media' good to know you made some progress. The noise in my car has evolved, lol. I can no longer here the 'rattle' from before but it is making a completely different noise. On a cold start there is an audible knocking comming from on the driver's side of the engine. But as soon as it warms up the noise goes away, can this be piston slap? Has anyone else experienced this on a LGT with the ej20x?

^ TBH t/shooting is stressful and costs a lot more in the future. Engine cheap now, God forbid if it fails just check gobin and drop a replacement unit in. I know it's not the best advice but #truetalk

Is that with stock internals?

If so, that's insane.

The hardened crank is actually default on the 257. Technically they don't manufacture the nitrided crank anymore. These were on the earlier STi. I believe it has something to do with environmental issues.

The 08+ still had a hardened crank though and Subaru says that it is equally durable.

You could probably land one of those for 18000

And it's still overheating with the new thermostat installed?

It wasn't overheating with a thermostat. The last was gutted and shell used to hold rubber in place. When the new original thermostat was installed the car overheated.

Turbo?
Have a small suspicion it may have air in the system as the mech said.
If turbo park on an incline with the front facing uphill so the reservoir is at the highest point. Open, fill, start, let idle for about 15 minutes or until fans come on. Between that rev the engine a bit (not hard) to circulate the coolant and flush put the air.
When fluids level with the opening or overflowing cap it off.

Non turbo, filling point is the radiator.

Yea turbo...Mechanic can't reach to sort me out yet. Pulled out radiator, crank pulley, ac and alt belts. Noticed that the new crank seal leaking, not heavy. Had a similar thought wrt to having the car on an incline but with the front facing downhill since the air pocket will most likely be trapped inside the block before the thermostat opens and can be released through the turbo reservoir.

Hey guys,
Never knew this thread existed lol. Got myself a BL5 legacy GT as well (2008) for a little over a year and had no major complaints until recently I started to get this serious steering problem where while driving 60km/hr and above, if I turn the steering wheel to turn a corner I won't get any feedback or response at all.. As in.. The Car still goes straight!. Only if I turn the steering wheel more.. At least 30degrees then it'll start to turn..suddenly. Happens in both directions. As you can imagine its pretty dangerous especially if I'm near a car or next to a barricade while turning the corner. It's currently at the mechanic and they said they think it's the steering rack that needs to be changed.. :(
Anyone knows where I can get a rack reasonably priced ?
Hope it don't expensive as my 06 RAV4. (10k new!)

Well the shaft inside the rack wear out and made a bigger bore, which explains the extra play on the steering.. Hence why I need to replace the rack itself.. Wasn't a bad leak just it was leaking slowly for a while apparently
