250whp Mitsu project need some opinions

Postby ShaqThom » February 13th, 2018, 7:01 pm

Yh folks I'm new to the Mitsubishi platform but I have been doing some research for quite some time on where I should focus my new project on!
My goal on this new project is 250whp for a decent daily driven experience while being able to hit the track from time to time.
I would pretty much not like to have to get into the internals of the engine of choice and therefore would prefably choose one which could make the power with stock internals.
I have two options at hand and I would like to get some expert advice from the local Mitsubishi godfathers.
Nb: I am a fwd enthusiast hence my preference of engines below

Option 1
Vrg Galant fitted with either a 6a13tt matted to a fto fwd box from the v6 model or jus buy a complete front half from the fto thats with the 6a12 (n/a) and do a direct swap and put in the extra mods to make up the 250whp.

Option 2
Mitsubishi Ck lancer fitted with 4g63t matted to a Spyder gst eclipse (convertible) fwd gearbox or jus buying a sypder gst eclipse front half and doin a complete swap as it already comes with a 4g63t doin around 210bhp stock.

Some of my questions on these options are the cost, the availability of the said parts and also the durability of the engines and transmissions listed

A 4G63T will give you more than enough power to meet your goal with a retune and very minor mods, I personally would go with the CK route as the car is lighter and you can swap out Evo parts onto it

Had a friend with the v6 and box installed in a cb lancer. pulled nice but couldn't do much with mods. Car also felt like a boat or front heavy.

what kronik said seems to be your best option.

Ok nice Soo we getting somewhere now! So the ck lancer is the better option for weight and parts! But how about the fwd box from the eclipse? Is that easily available? And if so what price range I looking at on average?

This was a non turbo v6 or the 6a13tt? And was it fwd? If fwd what box did he use and how long it held out for?

As a former VRG owner, I would not use the Galant. Parts are increasingly expensive and difficult to find. 4G63T platform seems to have much more support.

Isn't it possible to just swap transmission?

Yh I guess it is but is if what transmission would mate on to the engine and if it does how long would it last?

Options should be out there....just think of asking for an airtrek engine and tranny compared to asking for the same for an Evo....have to be smarter than the men in the bamboo or where ever u sourcing from. I doubt, that the 4g63 would have major variances so much to prevent mixing and matching.

Look at it from the economical side also....an Evo engine in a ck doesn't make it an Evo... Oh wait I might be wrong to an extent.

OPie the airtrek 4g63 is a detuned version eh. Not the same as the evo versions.
And they are auto/tiptronic

Went in the bamboo today! Didn't see anyone having a complete eclipse front half but there are eclipse parts available! So I think I'd jus stick with the fwd box from the eclipse and just find the cheapest compatible 4g63t on the market! Whether it be from the airtrek or the eclipse or even an evo

Just a word of warning, do not go with a Evo 4 engine, as that engine has a fault that causes crankwalk easily. Evo 5 and up are safe, the airtrek is also a safe engine

Yh brother thanks for the heads-up. Now I just need to learn the difference between the 4g63t from the various models! I even saw they have one came in the old grandis/chariot seven seater with a top mount intercooler but it's 4wd

^^Most likely same as the Airtrek. I believe the Airtrek engine was based off the Evo VII. I could be wrong though...

a ck is a excellent platform, driving one for years now.

Hopefully i would actually spend some money soon and get some coilovers soon, disc rear brakes and a gearbox.

but that like 15k right there and i seeing myself driving something else sooner than later.

Ck 2wd 250hp would not be a safe option. Torque steer will be scary.

I plan on modifying the gearbox to make it LSD if that would help! But torque steer for me is fun! But when you say scary you think it may still have problems in 3rd gear onewards also?

Gecko coilovers brand new fully adjustable $6000
Rear disc brakes setup approx $1500-$2000
So the next $7000 is on a gearbox? What kind of box you intend on buying?

Last time I heard box price was nearly 3500 for the box and axles. Need to get shifter. Pedal. new clutch and pp release bearing. Easily 4500 or cheaper depending on the cost. I does wrench myself so no labour cost.

You dont need manual axles.
You just need the tripod cups.
The actual axles are the same.
Just the tripod cups are different from the auto
