CK2 TO EVO 5/6 CONVERSION

Hey guys thinking of doing a complete evo 5/6 awd swap onto a fwd ck2 both body and mechanical.

before you say just buy an original evo, I'm in it for the fun of building a project car from ground up.

looking at getting a complete cp9a evo 5/6 front cut with the rear suspension, gas tank and the drive shaft but I have some concerns.

I know I have to do some cutting of the rear trunk floor pan to fit the diff and doing some structural rigidity by bead welding but that is the least of my concerns. I want to know if:

1. would the firewall clear the transfercase from the 4wd evo gearbox
2. what modification is required to put up the evo 4wd rear suspension

project would be a long term one but I would like to know before I buy any parts. anything else you think i may need

u shouldnt have any problems in the front once u have the subframe and all the necessary parts, as for the back, the best thing would be to get a evo back half and just change it to save u some time & money,

Take a read below and click on the "How To "Evolutionize" your Lancer!" link.

Straight answer: Yup! but it will be a lot of work (& plenty $$$.)

This might help... Link--> How To "Evolutionize" your Lancer!

... BUT it will cost serious $$$ to do it properly. Try to do it "on the cheap" and it may be very UNRELIABLE.
Also buying an Evo 4 front + Evo 4 rear cut (or at least E4 rear suspension) + Labour might (1) take a long time to find... (2) ...be almost as expensive as selling your CK and using the $$$ to buy an Evo 4... (with MUCH less work and MUCH shorter time too.)

If you try the 2nd option instead buy a newer Evo. More reliable... less parts maintenance... and body parts available for E7-to-E9 models.

My $0.02ยข

front should be no problem for parts since a complete front cut would be bought with everything but i trying not to change the back half as I want to keep the car as whole as possible.

time is no killer as this would be approx a 8 months-1 year project, but can it be done without changing the back half? I would be getting the gas tank and drive shaft also from d evo 5/6 also.

doing it good one time and done I stripping out the car and bracing everything!

Sanctifier need your help on this cause u seem to know his stuff when it comes to the evo.

Suggest you check this thread.

sign up if you have to then go back to this link. Read page 36 especially as it seems the strut towers in the rear are lower in the FWD than the EVO...

This other thread on the same site gives you a better look at the process
